I have been mega exhausted lately. Writing fiction is a lot easier than writing commentary on said fiction. The former I can do with my brain off, the latter is the exact opposite.
So, the 15th, I wrote a small story about a prophet. There was a larger idea here that I have forgotten. In fact, just skimming over what I did write1 I think I had forgotten about it while I was writing.
I have a few projects that involve prophecy already and my main headache while Im writing them (as I may have already mentioned before) is: how I do I subvert prophecy? How do I make it come true without it being obvious, or while keeping the stakes high? Or how do I make it not come true in a world where prophecy is a real thing?
Still working on that. Its possible when I get back to this piece that I remember what I wanted to do originally. We’ll see. On the whole, though, this piece is how I love to do worldbuilding. Ill likely end up just playing with the small sandbox I created there.

The 16th is not supposed to be Dragonball. The larger idea behind this one was something that doesnt actually appear in the story. Which means I need to do more in this world. In fact, the story itself doesnt start until that final paragraph. I dont have much else to say about it. I already see a lot “wrong” with this piece - I need to name people, for one - but I also see enough “right” with it to not send it to the trash pile.

And today. God I do not like this piece. I am bad at metaphor and this one misses the mark that I wanted to hit immediately. It wasnt even supposed to be a metaphor, but I got those first two or three paras down and it couldnt not be a metaphor. The mermaid part was always meant to be there, I just didnt know what I wanted to do with it. The idea that after the “we” of the story did something bad to the mermaids in the past and openly deny it only to go back to them on our hands and knees later is where I wanted to be. While there was supposed to be a detailing of hypocrisy and perhaps even atonement, it was not supposed to be so heavyhanded. I dont particularly like putting messages in my fiction, but this one is egregiously bad considering I know nothing about [redacted] during WW2. In fact, I know very little about anything in that period, especially things outside the European theatre. Pretend I didnt write this please.

I often cannot stand what I wrote. It can take months before I can see it as something that someone else wrote. I need to have “fresh eyes” before even attempting to edit it.
