Iranian regime still appears emboldened. A few days ago, The Telegraph published this headline: “Iran tells Trump to ‘accept the reality of defeat’”

The report detailed:

Responding to the US president’s assertion that the Strait of Hormuz would soon be declared US territory, Kazem Gharibabadi, Iran’s deputy foreign minister, said the vital oil-shipping route would remain under Iranian control.

“The strait will be closed and opened only under Iran’s command, and as long as you do not accept the reality of defeat and cease indulging in fantasies, Iran will continue to enforce the blockade,” Mr Gharibabadi wrote on X.

“Once and for all, accept the reality: Up to this point, you have suffered strategic and heavy defeats; the Strait of Hormuz has been Iranian, and will remain Iranian.”

President Trump showed beyond any question that he would use the American military to, as he put it, “obliterate” Iran’s nuclear development facility. Operation Midnight Hammer did just that apparently, despite pundits and news sources on the left offering their doubts about the destruction Trump proclaimed.

Therefore, knowing this president’s proclivity to deliver on what he promises—he has proved this many times—the question arises: Why does he keep holding off finishing the job of destroying Iran’s war-making ability? Why does he keep going back to the negotiation table time after time when the Iranian regime reneges on agreements about giving up their nuclear program and continue to assault shipping in the Strait of Hormuz?

We’ve established beyond a shadow of a doubt that the Ezekiel 38/39 Russia, Iran, Turkey, et al., invasion of Israel takes place after the Rapture at the 6th Seal earthquake (Ezek. 38:18-20).

That begs the question: How much time will it take for the first 5 Seals to be completed before Russia, Iran, Turkey, et al., invade Israel? And what about Gog’s horses?

When Does God’s Wrath Begin?

It’s first interesting to note that God’s wrath doesn’t actually begin until the 6th Seal. In fact, the millions who are martyred are revealed in the 5th Seal crying out:

they cried out with a loud voice, saying, “How long, O Lord, holy and true, will You refrain from judging and avenging our blood on those who dwell on the earth?” Rev. 6:10

We all knew that this was coming. For ages, people like me have been ranting that we would be facing a financial nightmare if we didn’t get the national debt under control. Of course most of the population didn’t want to listen, and they just kept sending big spenders back to Washington. Now we are 40 trillion dollars in debt and we are spending well over a trillion dollars a year just in interest on that debt. Nobody can deny that we have reached a stage where our debt spiral is totally out of control. The federal budget deficit for the month of July was 432 billion dollars. Interest on the national debt for the month of July was 118 billion dollars. Now Treasury yields are spiking as investors become hesitant to buy more of our debt. Borrowing costs are rising to very alarming levels, and we are in far more trouble than most people realize.

The size of the national debt officially crossed the 40 trillion dollar threshold on Tuesday…

The U.S. national debt has surpassed $40 trillion for the first time, marking a historic milestone in a borrowing buildup that has accumulated over generations, through wars, recessions, tax changes, and the expansion of major federal benefit programs under presidents of both parties.

The Treasury Department reported that total public debt outstanding reached about $40.047 trillion Tuesday, according to The Wall Street Journal and The New York Times.

People haven’t changed much since time began. God teaches us right from wrong, but we choose wrong most of the time. We all know about Adam and Eve and the trouble that came from them disobeying God. The Old Testament has many lessons to teach; a study of Jacob’s life holds many and is worth the time to learn from his mistakes.

Jacob’s trouble began in the womb. He was a twin, and his mother, Rebekah, suffered much during the pregnancy because of the fight between the twins even before they were born.

“And the children struggled together within her; and she said If it be so, why am I thus? And she went to enquire of the LORD. And the LORD said unto her, Two nations are in thy womb, and two manner of people shall be separated from thy bowels; and the one people shall be stronger than the other people, and the elder shall serve the younger” (Genesis 25:22-23).

The road to adventure, apparently, is sometimes a golf cart path through an Ohio field.

There are adventures you plan, and then there are adventures that begin with four travelers, a golf cart and the questionable decision to cross a busy highway. We had left our annual family campout on a Sunday afternoon and headed north toward Geneva-on-the-Lake to visit our good friend Chris at Kenisee Grand River Campground. That made our traveling party Chris, Chris, Charlie and me, which already required some clarification whenever somebody yelled, “Hey, Chris!” The weather was one of those rare northeastern Ohio gifts, sunshine, blue skies, warm temperatures and scarcely a cloud to threaten the proceedings. Naturally, we decided the proper response was to pile into a golf cart and go looking for wine.

And there it was, Laurello Vineyards, our reward for surviving the highway and the field. Our destination was Laurello Vineyards, which apparently could be reached by golf cart if you possessed enough determination and a flexible interpretation of transportation infrastructure. We crossed the highway, bounced through a field and, alas, there was the winery. We settled in with a couple glasses of wine and noticed mystery flags everywhere.

At least, we eventually learned they were Jamaican flags. For a while we conducted our own international-relations seminar at the picnic table, offering various theories about what country we were celebrating. My wife Chris, guessed they were Jamaican. Finally, I looked it up. Chris was right, Jamaica. Suddenly the steel drums, the Bob Marley songs and the whole afternoon made considerably more sense. The entertainer was Jamaican, had come up from Florida, and Laurello was having a Jamaican-themed day. Mystery solved. Another glass of wine seemed appropriate.

The entertainment was somewhere in the neighborhood of okay, but the company was first rate, and that usually matters more anyway. Apparently, some folks had actually traveled from Florida to northern Ohio to see the steel-drum performer, which demonstrated considerably more dedication than our expedition across the field.

Good wine, great company and a northeastern Ohio afternoon that actually cooperated.

We simply sat beneath the sunshine, sampled the wine, laughed, talked and watched people enjoy themselves. There is something wonderfully uncomplicated about an afternoon like that. Nobody was checking a schedule. Nobody needed to accomplish anything. The biggest challenge facing us was identifying a national flag, and eventually even that crisis was resolved. Three friends, a picnic table, a little wine and a golf cart waiting to take us home. Sometimes life gets it exactly right.

The best part of an afternoon like this has very little to do with the wine. By early evening we were back at Kenisee, sitting along the Grand River beneath the trees. The pace slowed even further as we caught up on children, family, life and all the things that somehow require fewer words when you are sitting beside moving water.

Down by the Grand River, where an afternoon adventure became an evening among friends. The river quietly rolled past as it probably has through thousands of conversations before ours. Eventually we headed back to our trusty Class C Entegra for the night.

Home sweet motorhome, our trusty Entegra waiting at the end of the day. No grand itinerary. No exotic destination. Just friendship, laughter, a winery reached by golf cart, a Jamaican mystery solved by Google, and an evening down by the Grand River.

A farmer who was known for his frugality owned a cow that gave birth to two calves. He said to his wife, “I’m going to dedicate one of these calves to the Lord.” Knowing his miserly ways, she was very surprised and asked which one he was planning to give to the Lord.

“I haven’t decided yet, but I’ll let you know,” he said.

A few days went by, and again she asked which calf he was giving to the Lord. “I’m still thinking about it,” he told her.

Then one day, one of the calves got sick. It grew worse and worse until one night the farmer walked up onto the porch with the calf draped over his arms. He said to his wife, “Honey, I have bad news. The Lord’s calf just died.”

Similarly, many of us tend to give God that which we don’t really want ourselves. Think about a typical day. What place do we give to the things of God? Maybe we utter a quick prayer as we roll out of bed or offer some hurried words of thanks over breakfast. Then we rush off to our responsibilities. At the end of the day, we say, “Oh, right. I’ll give God these last four minutes as I’m dozing off.”

If God is important, then why do we give Him our leftovers? God certainly doesn’t want our leftovers. He makes that quite clear in Scripture. God said to Israel, “Cursed is the cheat who promises to give a fine ram from his flock but then sacrifices a defective one to the Lord. For I am a great king . . . and my name is feared among the nations!” (Malachi 1:14 NLT).

In His Sermon on the Mount, Jesus said, “Seek the Kingdom of God above all else, and live righteously, and he will give you everything you need” (Matthew 6:33 NLT).

One of the most important steps of spiritual growth is making sure that our priorities are in order. In the busyness of daily life, it’s easy to convince ourselves that pressing work responsibilities or family commitments should take precedence over our time with the Lord. But that kind of focus makes us lose sight of the interconnectedness of our responsibilities.

God rewards time spent with Him. When we give Him the choicest part of our day, He blesses the remainder. When we quiet ourselves before Him, pour out our praise, thanksgiving, and requests in prayer, and spend quality time in His Word, we are better prepared to face the challenges and responsibilities of the day.

The psalmist asked, “What can I offer the Lord for all he has done for me?” (Psalm 116:12 NLT). If we let that question guide our thoughts, actions, and priorities, we will discover what it means to serve God—and to be abundantly blessed by Him in return.

God gave us His best. Let’s give Him ours.
