Proskii · Tastes Like a Cheat Meal

Hello Broskiis!

Welcome to the forty-second edition of Tastes Like a Cheat Meal. You can read the others here: https://newsletter.proskii.in/ & https://proskii.substack.com.

If you’re new here, this is Proskii’s weekly newsletter. Both Rohit and I (Yash) hate long emails, so we keep these short and promise not to spam your loving soul.

SACH MAI!! AMRITSARI CHOLE KULCHO KI KASAM

Last week, I completed one year of moving back to India after leaving my corporate job in London.

And if you ask me what I’ve done since then...

Mostly Proskii.

14–15-hour workdays.
Shooting content.
Packing cereal.
Taking calls.

Solving random problems that apparently only founders are qualified to solve.

And spending a slightly concerning amount of time inside my house.

At some point, I realised...
I had barely stepped out for anything that wasn’t work.

No proper social life. Very few plans.

And definitely not enough reasons to wear something other than a Proskii T-shirt.

Recently, I travelled to Andheri to meet the team.

We’re now 15 people strong, with 7 of us based in Mumbai.

We spent the day doing what teams do.

Ideating.
Reviewing content.
Arguing over tiny details that nobody outside the room would ever notice.
Changing things.
Changing them back.

And eventually agreeing on something. The usual.

But after that, instead of going straight home...

I went to a creator networking event.

And honestly...

I almost didn’t go.

Because when you’ve spent enough time building a company, leaving work can start feeling like you’re doing something wrong.

There’s always another email.
Another idea.
Another problem.
Another thing that could be done.

We played games, met new people, had random conversations.

Laughed about things that had absolutely nothing to do with cereal.

And for a few hours...

I wasn’t thinking about Proskii.

Which was actually really nice.

I came back feeling lighter.

And also slightly embarrassed that I needed a networking event to remind myself that humans are supposed to interact with other humans.

Lovely scenes.

Nobody really talks about this part of entrepreneurship.

Everyone talks about the freedom.

Being your own boss.

Building something from scratch.

The exciting parts.

But when you’re spending 14 hours a day thinking about one company, your world can slowly become very small.

Your conversations become work.

Your weekends become work.

Your “quick coffee” becomes a meeting.

And suddenly...

You haven’t spoken to someone without discussing a deadline in three weeks.

That’s not sustainable.

That creator event reminded me of something I think we’re also trying to build with Proskii.

We’re not just trying to sell cereal.

We’re trying to build a community of people who want to start their mornings a little better.

People who care about what they eat.

People who ask questions.

People who tell us when we’re getting something wrong.

People who send us pictures of their breakfast.

People who recommend us to their friends.

That’s the kind of community we want around Proskii.

And maybe...

That’s also the kind of community we need around ourselves.

Because building something is hard.

Building it alone is even harder.

A year ago, I was leaving a corporate job in London and coming back to India with a pretty simple idea.

Build something of our own.

I didn’t know what the next year would look like.

I definitely didn’t expect 15 people to be working on Proskii.

I didn’t expect thousands of people to have Proskii sitting in their kitchens.

And I definitely didn’t expect cereal to become the reason I know more about logistics, manufacturing, packaging and customer support than I ever thought possible.

But here we are.

Still building.
Still figuring things out.
Still making mistakes.

And occasionally... Leaving the house.

Hopefully more often now.
