It’s been 10 years since we started Piney Wood Atlas, so this month we are journeying back through time to revisit our past trips.
June, 2018
Our third road trip wove us around a region neither of us had ever visited before— to visit 17 residencies in Nebraska, Iowa, Minnesota, Wisconsin, Michigan, Illinois and Missouri.
There we discovered magical landscapes, people, and memories:
Fireflies filling the clearing at dusk
Finding bird nests kayaking in the reeds at Lake Okoboji
Cheese curds in the Driftless
A residency haunted by Prince
A residency in an attic
A residency in a former asylum
The VFW with Mary & Kelly
The Otter Tail County Historical Society Museum
Duluth as Twin Peaks
The mood swings of Lake Superior weather (a residency on an island)
The good hearts and chain coral of Good Hart
Korean drinking games and laughing through the interview in Pontiac “there is no time like the pleasant”
Cone-lickers by Lake Michigan
Pond swimming in rural Wisconsin and Rue’s magical mosquito repellant
Late-night karaoke at ACRE
Exotic celery in the land of Lincoln
The St. Louis City Museum and its 10-story slide!!
Kansas City BBQ
The floating barn in a Nebraska oasis
An interview in a treehouse
