Howdy everyone!

Many factors contribute to optimal shoulder function. Throughout this month, you've explored key principles:

✨ A stable shoulder is a healthy shoulder. But stability doesn't mean rigidity—stability is about controlled, intentional movement.

✨ Your collarbones, shoulder blades, and thoracic spine play integral roles in both the stability and mobility of your shoulder joint.

✨ Maintaining proper posture is crucial in preventing wear and tear on the shoulder, promoting long-term health and resilience.

As we wrap up this month’s thematic exploration, what’s left? While we could easily dedicate a full year to shoulder mechanics, we have just one final Monday class. Two vital areas we haven’t yet focused on are the chest and ribs.

In today’s world—dominated by forward-facing activities like computer work, phone use, and driving—the chest and ribcage often become tight and closed off. This tension impacts the shoulder girdle, as the collarbones and shoulder blades form a supportive halo around the chest and ribs. When tightness builds, it restricts their ability to stabilize and move freely, limiting the overall range of motion in the shoulders.

Tomorrow’s class will incorporate the MELT® technique to release tension in the chest and ribcage, unlocking greater freedom and control in your shoulder movement. Join Destinie to MELT® away restrictions and experience a new range of motion in your shoulders!

Class Theme:

Monday, October 28th @ 12pm with Destinie:

Did you know that Pilates includes a complete arm series? It sure does, and today, we’ll use it as our assessment tool. We’ll start by moving through the series to tune into how your shoulders feel. Then, we’ll do two things: 1) use the MELT® method to hydrate the fascia around the chest and ribs, and 2) practice "crocodile" breathing to open up the chest and ribs through intentional breathwork. Afterward, we’ll flow through a few Pilates exercises, finishing with a repeat of the arm series to reassess your shoulders. For any desk workers out there, this class is a must!

Prop: a soft foam roller, preferably the MELT® roller
