Cécilia in Concert Sept 4th – High energy Celtic & Québecois

BROOKTONDALE NY – The Canaan Institute presents a house concert with Cécilia – a high energy Celtic & Québecois trio with Timi Turmel (accordion), Erin Leahy (piano), and Xavier Leahy (fiddle) on Fri Sep 4^th, 2026. Timi Turmel is considered a master of the accordion. He grew up in a family of talented musicians, including his father, Jean-Marc, and his uncle, Robin, who inspired in Timi a deep passion for the instrument. From a young age, he began performing on stages and in many important competitions throughout Quebec and the United States. Crowned Quebecois Champion for three consecutive years, Timi went on to join Mackinaw, the distinguished Quebecois company of traditional dance. For many years, in his role not only as accordionist but also as pianist and musical director, Timi played in festivals all over Europe.

Xavier Leahy - Xavier is touring as the fiddler on this tour, in lieu of Louis Schryer. Also in the LEAHY family band, Xavier is an artist in his own right. Growing up on a diet of traditional Irish, Scottish, French, and Ottawa Valley music, Xavier has an appetite for all styles which has grown and propelled him into the worlds of country, jazz, rock, classical, and even electronica! His proficiency on many instruments has brought him both acclaim and attention. Xavier’s deep passion for music is not only obvious in his playing but in his writing and recording as well. With numerous compositions to his name, his sound is uniquely original and reflects his effortless ability to cross genres and integrate many styles into his creations. His heightened instinct for music makes him fearless when exploring the vast musical landscape that lies before him, and his deep respect for the power and gift of music keeps him honest in his pursuit of both excellence and evolution as an artist.

Erin Leahy – Canadian musician, composer and arranger, Erin has earned a reputation for her exceptional talent and versatility. She is a powerhouse on the piano, playing traditional, Celtic, ragtime, classical, and jazz-influenced music. Erin also plays violin with the same command and musicality. As a member of the internationally renowned Canadian band LEAHY, Erin and her siblings have enjoyed a long and distinguished musical career. They have worldwide sales of more than half a million albums and have received numerous awards, including three JUNOS. With extensive touring, their sound and spirit have garnered fans from around the globe. Recent album releases include LEAHY’s Good Water and Cécilia’s Accent.

About the Venue. The Canaan Institute hosts jam sessions, music lessons, concerts and other small events in our modern insulated barn. We have been hosting house concerts since 2008. About the format of the Canaan Concerts. We generally shoot for two music sets with a leisurely intermission where we offer finger foods and soft drinks, tea and coffee. Guests are welcome to BYOB if you want wine or beer. We have a few wine glasses. There is a restroom – it is up 3 steps, sorry not very accessible, but there are grab rails. About the entry fees. We try to set the door price so the musicians can earn at least a fair portion of what they truly deserve. But we do not want to scare folks off. If you are on a limited budget, talk to me, we will figure out what you can afford. I would rather have you here than not! It is more fun for them to play for a full house!
