Michael Ludgate · Michael Ludgate's News from The Canaan Institute

Happy Friday,

Here are some music and art projects I am involved in. Scroll to the end for summer floral images.

We are having fun at the weekly Wednesday jam session where play fiddle tunes for dancing (contra!). Every Wed 7-9 pm here at The Canaan Institute. Don’t wait, just come on out. More info.

I’ll be giving a short talk about my photography at the CAP Art Space on Monday night August 17th with other Greater Ithaca Art Trail artists 6:30-7:30pm. Details.

Saturday August 22nd 6-8pm, the Cornell Contra Dance Club, a student run organization, will kick off their semester with help from O’Shanigans and Casey Carr. The plan is for an outdoor contra! They have an indoor plan in case of rain. O’Shanigans quartet will be joined by Sophie Orzechowski MacRae (fiddle) and Phil Greenfield (acoustic bass). Details here.

Sunday August 23rd 11am-2pm, Metku will play Finnish American dance tunes from the Finger Lakes at the Ithaca Farmers Market. More info.

Friday Sept 4th - A house concert with Cécilia – a high energy Celtic & Québecois trio featuring Timi Turmel (accordion), Erin Leahy (piano), and Louis Schryer (fiddle). Concert begins at 7:00 pm (doors 6:30). Session to follow. $35 donation at the door (sliding scale, just ask). RSVP please https://cinst.org/rsvp for directions and to reserve your seats. Details in last week’s Substack post.

More folk jams and contra dances here on my calendar section of the website.

My website: If you get a slow response, an error message or a time-out, please be patient and try again in 10 or 15 minutes, The DOS bombs have been ridiculous lately and I am learning better ways to block it, but it still bogs down sometimes.

Photos for sale. You can find samples of many of my images as greeting cards, calendars, framed and matted prints at Handwork Coop gift shop and art store along with dozens of other local artisans’ work.

Thank you for reading and subscribing. This Substack is all me - 100% human written, no AI. Please support the extra effort this takes by contributing with a paid subscription if it fits your budget.

I genuinely thank you for reading to the end. If you could please “like” and “share” my posts, that really helps me by increasing my readership. It is been great seeing all the “likes” (hearts) pop up. I appreciate and do notice every single one. -Mike :)
