Florida state health officials reported 16 additional locally acquired dengue fever cases in the week ending August 15, bringing the state total for the year to 23.
Cases are distributed to four counties: Hillsborough (15), Miami-Dade (4), Palm Beach, and Pinellas (3).
The bulk of the cases (20) are serotyped as dengue virus type 2 (DENV-2).
In addition, twenty-one cases of travel associated dengue were reported this week, bringing the total to 86.
Counties reporting cases were: Bay, Brevard, Broward (11), Duval, Hillsborough (5), Lake, Lee (4), Manatee, Miami-Dade (45), Orange (2), Osceola, Palm Beach (6), Polk, Sarasota, Seminole, St. Johns, St. Lucie (2), and Walton. Two cases were reported in non-Florida residents.
