Owner: ‘Lower income people are struggling’

Even though both of Daniel Boardman’s Nob Hill restaurants are tucked just off the Central Avenue corridor, one has been thriving, he said, but the other—Waffletopia—closed about two weeks ago.

Many Hilleños knew Waffletopia as Tia B’s La Waffleria, located at 3710 Campus Blvd. NE, just west of Carlisle. It rebranded as Waffletopia last year and operated for more than a decade. Boardman said he closed the specialty breakfast and brunch spot known for its waffle dishes because the math wasn’t adding up anymore.
