This article was inspired by an article I came across on Neuroscience & Wellness. I knew it was something I wanted to share my own version of here.
Try three of these today, your body will thank you.
1. Go outside and notice how the sunlight feels on your body.
2. Go on a beauty treasure hunt. Find three beautiful things in your surroundings, and really take them in.
3. Take your shoes off and feel grass underneath your feet.
4. Sit quietly and take three breaths, making the exhale longer than the inhale.
5. Scan your body and notice the sensations and feelings.
6. Make a list of three kind things to say to yourself today; put it where you’ll see it often.
7. Take a sip of water, or tea, or coffee, or your favorite beverage, and really notice the taste in your mouth.
8. When your body asks to rest, allow it to rest.
9. Write in your journal for 10 minutes with no filter.
10. One moment when you want to pick up your phone, decide to sit quietly with no distractions instead.
11. Put on a song that makes you feel good and let your body move any way it wants to.
12. Set a timer for 60 seconds and shake your whole body.
13. Put your hand on your own skin. Notice what it feels like, both in your hand, and on your skin.
14. Breathe in, then breathe out any thoughts that aren’t serving you today.
15. Stand with both feet on the floor and notice your connection to the earth. Notice how the earth is holding you.
16. Put your hands on the opposite shoulders (this is called a butterfly hug) and tap alternating sides.
17. Unsubscribe from a newsletter or content creator that’s no longer interesting to you.
18. When you feel a no in your body, trust it rather than overriding it.
19. When you notice your inner critic, tell it we’re being kind, just for today.
20. Let a feeling be there without trying to change it or make it go away.
21. Take your daily routines slowly and purposefully, brushing your teeth, doing your skincare, washing your hands. Notice how it feels to take each step.
22. Rub lotion into your arms and legs, noticing how your skin feels being taken care of like this.
23. Take a long shower, noticing how the warm water feels on your skin.
24. When you receive calls and texts, notice how your body reacts based on the person reaching out. Do you expand or contract when you see their name on your phone?
25. Put together an outfit that feels fully you.
26. Prepare a meal for yourself that’s exactly what your body wants in that moment.
27. Notice your hunger and thirst cues and respond accordingly. Drink when you’re thirsty, eat when you’re hungry, stop when you’re full.
28. Go for a walk outside and notice the feeling of the fresh air moving through your body.
29. Write in your journal about three things you’re grateful for today.
30. Reorganize one small space in your home until it looks and feels calm.
31. Light a candle and really notice the flame, how it moves and reshapes itself.
32. When doing a task, let it be good enough rather than needing it to be perfect.
33. Read a few pages of a book, noticing the feel of the physical pages in your hands.
34. Have a long talk with someone who you love and trust.
35. Drink your coffee or tea from your favorite mug.
36. Remember you’re safe even if you disappoint someone.
37. Close your eyes and notice your breath moving in and out of your body.
38. Look at your calendar and cancel anything that doesn’t feel like a yes in your body.
39. Put your phone away for an hour.
40. Open the windows and breathe in the fresh air.
41. Dim the lights to make your home feel soft.
42. Don’t pick up the phone unless it’s someone you love calling.
43. Notice when you’re trying to accommodate someone else’s needs at the expense of your own, and ask yourself if it’s necessary.
44. Make a playlist of songs that make you feel happy.
45. Sit quietly, close your eyes, and notice what your body wants to tell you.
46. Just for today, do things that feel good in your body.
47. Notice your shoulders. Exhale and lower them.
48. Just for today, let go of the thoughts that aren’t serving you.
49. Forgive yourself for being less than perfect.
50. Remember who you are.
I hope this list was helpful.
Please share your ways of coming home to yourself.
With love,
Nina
