Happy New Year — yep, it’s almost February.
I’ve been a busy little bee: Uni exams. A dissertation study. Launching a business. Doing some talks.
I was going to share my thoughts from a talk I gave at the weekend, but then I realised I haven’t posted in a while and I’ve got a deadline to close my dissertation study. So I’m gonna run with that…
I’m doing a dissertation study!
Honestly:
a) 18-year-old Nikki never thought she’d ever say that.
b) 58-year-old Nikki is genuinely flabbergasted that I get to do this.
Righto. If you’re a runner - doesn’t matter how far, how fast, or how long you’ve been doing this thing that moves your body from one foot to the other - if you run, you’re a runner. And I’d love for you to take part in my study.
The online survey takes 10–15 minutes and includes:
basic demographic questions (age, gender, etc.)
running context questions (tick boxes)
sets of questions on self-compassion and impostor feelings (also tick boxes)
All questions are about you as a runner, whatever level you’re at.
All responses are anonymous.

If you’re still reading and wondering why I chose this topic — the honest answer is: I did… and I didn’t.
The university gave us a list of 20 topics aligned with supervisor expertise. We ranked our top ten and were allocated based on availability. Thankfully, I got one of my top three choices.
Where I did have autonomy was choosing who to study. And given that I’m a runner, I want to support runners, and I spend a lot of time thinking about mindset - this one made sense.
What’s especially cool (for me — and for you, if you’re curious about the findings) is that these constructs haven’t really been explored in the context of running before. So this is new research.
Will I find something statistically significant?
Who knows.
But I do know I’ll find something.
Thanks for reading.
And thanks for sticking around while I dip in and out of here.
I’ll be back - probably tomorrow - because I have written a post about my talk at the weekend… I just flipped and posted this instead.
And true to form, I’ll likely do a flurry of posts, then assignment deadlines, business intentions, and life will intervene… and you won’t hear from me again until I’m ready to run across Australia.
And on that bombshell -
see ya later, alligator.
x Nikki
