The Power to End Suffering

Michael Corthell · The Vegan's Voice

Most of us would never choose to hurt an animal standing in front of us. We would not look into the eyes of a frightened goat, pig, cow, or chicken and decide that their fear does not matter. Yet our everyday choices can support systems that cause suffering far from view.

Veganism asks us to connect those choices with their consequences. It is not about perfection, purity, or moral superiority. It is about recognizing that when we can avoid causing harm, we should.

That power is more ordinary than we imagine. It appears in grocery aisles, restaurant menus, clothing racks, and conversations with others. Every compassionate choice means a little less money flowing to industries built on exploitation.

We may not be able to end all suffering. But we can refuse to fund suffering we do not need to cause. Compassion becomes meaningful when we act on it.

Want to put compassion into practice? Download The 7-Day Compassion Challenge, a practical 17-page workbook from The Vegan’s Voice designed to help you make kinder, more consistent choices for animals. It’s free, or pay what you want. Get your copy here.

I know some may not want to commit to a paid subscription, but if you’d like to support my work, you can always buy me a coffee on Ko-fi. Your contribution helps sustain independent writing rooted in consciousness, compassion, and social renewal. Every bit of support truly makes a difference. Thank you!
