Not all milks are equal when it comes to water. Producing one liter of cow’s milk requires about 628 liters of freshwater, compared with 371 for almond milk, 48 for oat milk, and about 28 for soy milk. Coconut milk has been estimated as low as 3 liters per liter in some studies.
The exact footprint varies by region and production method, but the larger picture is clear: choosing plant-based milk, especially soy or oat, can dramatically reduce the water required to fill your glass.
