✨ What sparked your interest in healthtech?

I’m a software engineer with a background spanning full-stack development, mobile applications, and quality engineering. I currently work as a developer at SAP, and my academic path includes Computer Science studies in Ukraine and at the Technical University of Munich, a Master’s thesis at ETH Zurich, and research work at Khalifa University in Abu Dhabi. Over the past years, I’ve also had the opportunity to study and live in Norway, which further shaped my international perspective.

My recent academic and research focus has been on remote photoplethysmography (rPPG) — a computer-vision-based approach to estimating heart rate using a simple RGB camera. This work resulted in two published papers, with a third currently in progress, and I had the chance to present this research at the first med-dev research conference in Munich. I decided to join the Inner Circle to intentionally bridge my technical background with deeper medical and med-tech domain knowledge, and to immerse myself more closely in this ecosystem. Looking back, that goal was clearly achieved.

💬 How was your overall experience in the med-dev Inner Circle?

Overall, my experience in the Inner Circle was very positive and rewarding. What stood out most was the people — everyone joined voluntarily, which created an open, motivated, and genuinely curious atmosphere. Conversations during official events, as well as spontaneous meet-ups outside the program, felt natural and intellectually stimulating rather than transactional.

The Inner Circle provided a space where it felt easy to exchange ideas, challenge assumptions, and talk openly about both technology and healthcare. This sense of community made the experience feel less like a program and more like being part of a focused, trust-based network with shared interests and ambitions.

💻 What did you work on during this time?

During the last few months, my main contributions focused on content creation and event organization. I wrote a research-focused article for the newsletter, summarizing insights from my Master’s thesis and ongoing academic work conducted in Switzerland and the UAE. Translating deep technical research into accessible, high-level communication was a valuable exercise and helped broaden the reach of this work beyond academia.

In addition, I took end-to-end responsibility for organizing an event — from selecting the venue and setting the date to coordinating speakers and managing the overall flow. With great support from Vivi, this became the first event I organized independently. It pushed me outside my comfort zone and gave me hands-on experience in planning, coordination, and decision-making that I hadn’t initially anticipated, but now see as extremely valuable.

💎 In your opinion, what was the most valuable part of the program?

The most valuable aspect of the Inner Circle for me was clearly the community. Having direct, more personal access to speakers and gaining behind-the-scenes insights into the med-dev space created a much deeper understanding of how the ecosystem actually works beyond public talks or conferences.

Equally important was the exposure to potential companies and partners for future projects. The Inner Circle helped connect dots between research, industry, and real-world application, which is exactly where I see the most impact. It strengthened my confidence that combining strong engineering with medical knowledge is not only possible, but highly needed — and that the Inner Circle is a great environment to foster exactly that intersection.

Thank you Maksym, for your great feedback and your insights!

Our next event will be something special. You will have the chance to create real solutions for current challenges in healthtech, pitch at a VC in front of real investors and win big prizes (😨 2.000€ 😨).

We have teamed up with Wellster and Spira Labs to launch a healthcare hackathon designed for real impact.

This is what the journey will look like:

  • 🏁 Hackathon @ Wellster (March 28-29): Match into interdisciplinary teams and tackle challenges using real medical data.

  • 🛠️ 4-Week Coaching Phase: The three winning teams continue and refine their solutions with weekly expert coaching from Spira Labs.

  • 🎤 Grand Finale Pitch Night: The finalists present live to investors and experts at Spira Labs in late April.
