Doing it for the plot.

You know when people say they’re “doing it for the plot,” but then they don’t write any of it down or tell anybody but their friends? What a waste of content. Jkjkjkjkjkjk.

But seriously, I’ve always been a fan of this concept and living the most full, exciting and large version of my life possible. I am ready to start sharing them here with you and that is what I launched this Substack. Thank you for subscribing!! My chronology might be a bit wacky, but through these stories you’ll get a better picture of what my life has been like, where I am now, and most importantly where I am going. My goal is that it help you feel less alone and perhaps it inspires you to get out there and fight for the life you want.

Having been in the streets a lot more this week than I have been in some time, I realized I am entering the world in a changed body, mind, and most importantly, a liberated spirit.

For the first time ever I’m doing what feels good to me, when it feels good, like going to a concert alone or taking a solo trip. Rediscovering myself through travel, music, conversations and experiences. Project Marcy 4.0 is in full effect and I’m feeling really good about it. I’m feeling passionate about things again, picking ME.

If you follow astrology, you probably know that last year was the year of the snake in Chinese astrology, the year of “shedding.” Out with the old, in with the new. 2026 is the year of the fire horse. In addition to the Chinese Zodiac, pop Astrology has taught me that the planets are aligned in a way that they haven’t been in decades and will continue this way for 2 more decades.

The collective consciousness that has emerged from these two things has been energizing and ever present in my circles. Not to mention this week’s insane retrograde.

In the fall, I had such a different vision of what the year ahead would bring. My idea of shedding, and what I was running towards, has totally changed. I also had never considered the fact that it might be time to run AWAY from certain things as well.

I thought the horse was all about growing my small businesses to the next level and I was ready. Prepared to give EVERYTHING I had, to stop holding back, release the mistakes of the past and move forward. When I took an inventory of what I had left to give, I realized I was TAPPED or “burnt out” as people say. I’ve taken the last six months to rest and recalibrate and while I am still working on myself and my new routines, finding my identity, etc, I am ready to start building my ideal future.

I’m a powerful manifester and ideator on my own, but my real gift is execution and making things happen. In this next chapter, I’m making things happen for myself.

I am really reprogramming and retraining myself, I’ve explored body positivity and self-acceptance, but now it’s time to ditch the “Hispanic Panic.” For example: rather than teaching me to pet dogs and learn to approach them safely, (and because my young mother was acting out of her own trauma/demonstrating learned behaviors), she would pull me in tight and say, “Dogs will bite you.” Now we have grown to love dogs in my family, but it took courage, learning how to handle them, and fleeing from fear. Anxiety is wasted energy on the worst case scenario.

My focus is freedom: with my ideas, my authenticity, my body, my time and my truth. I’m expanding beyond my own comprehension, at a speed that I can’t even fathom, but I am READY. I’m so excited for the future despite not knowing what it holds. What I do know is that my future is bright and I am unstoppable. Call it lucky girl syndrome or being delulu but I actually believe it is all going to work out for my highest good.

As a child-free millennial, I definitely understand how people see not procreating as narcissistic or selfish. I want to free myself of any shame or guilt that I might carry for choosing myself. Choosing not to have children is not narcissism, and it is nothing like the devastating reality of dealing with a real narcissist. There is a massive difference between looking out for your own life path and being unable to empathize with the world.

Instead of worrying about those labels, lean into you. Lean into the things you love doing. You will find people that you enjoy spending time with in those places. Whether it’s platonic or romantic, our shared interests are what bring us together most, and they will withstand the test of time because wherever YOU go, there YOU are.

I started doing this in the late fall, and as I have gotten better at it, I have only gotten stronger.

When I stopped waiting for the world to give me permission and started making choices that prioritized my own expansion, everything shifted. I closed down the old structures that were draining me and walked away from any relationship that no longer fit the future I vision for myself. I got back into the gym, dropped thirty pounds, changed the way I show up in my physical body, and suddenly, the universe answered back with a flood of brand new opportunities.

It turns out that when you stop acting like a supporting character in your own life, the entire script changes.

So, here is my final thought for you as we ride into this next chapter together: stop waiting on anyone or anything to live your one and only beautiful life. Decenter the things that do not serve you: whether that is a job, a fear, or the exhaustion of trying to find someone else to complete you, and put your own hopes, dreams, and needs first.

You are the author. You are the executive producer. You are the VIBE. If you’re going to do it for the plot, make sure you’re writing a story YOU would LOVE reading.

This entire article was free, because the raw, unfiltered chapters to come are reserved for my paid subscriber community.

For the last ten years, I have poured my absolute everything into building community, holding space, and advocating for self-acceptance, body positivity and fat liberation. I’ve given my energy, my time, and my heart to creating spaces where the othered can feel seen. Now, as I enter this Marcy 4.0 era, I am choosing to center my own narrative and build a sustainable future.

Doing it for the plot means executing the vision, and this Substack is a fully paid endeavor because good storytelling, real journalism, and deep community building take work. By upgrading to a paid subscription, you aren’t just getting access to my absolute best writing, global plus-size clothing sourcing adventures, and personal diary entries: you are actively investing in me, my voice, and the work I am doing.

Let’s turn the page.

XOXO,

Marcy
