The Prologue: Finding 2 Sachem Path

I’ve always been drawn to homes that feel lived in.

Homes that hold history, traditions, and memories. Design, to me, has never just been about how a space looks - it’s about how it feels.

For the past 15 years, that’s been the foundation of our work at Mackenzie & Company. We’ve spent those years designing homes alongside our clients, listening to how they live, learning their traditions, understanding what matters to them, and designing for how they want their home to feel and function.

Expanding into Mac & Co. Properties felt like a natural continuation of that.

But why now? I couldn’t quite say.

Only that I knew, if I paid close enough attention, I’d eventually be led to a property that felt like the beginning of our next chapter.

That’s what led me to 2 Sachem Path.

From the beginning, I wanted to be near Lewis Bay. It’s where I spent my summers, where some of my favorite memories were made, and where I hoped someone else might one day get to feel the same thing.

It just felt right.

I could already picture the quiet mornings. Salt in the air. Long afternoons that turn into evening without anyone quite noticing. A home that feels collected over time, not decorated all at once.

Walking through the door, everything began to align - the neighborhood, the large yard, the corner lot, the layout, and being steps from the beach.

But more than any of it, it was my intuition. There was a calmness to the home. It wasn’t oversized. It wasn’t trying to impress anyone. There was no excess to it. It simply sat there, quietly and confidently, exactly where it belonged.

Built in 1962, the house had only ever belonged to two people, both women. Somehow, you could tell it had been loved.

There are homes that go unchanged because they’ve been neglected. This wasn’t one of them. This one hadn’t been touched because it had been cared for. It needed some care of its own now, but not at the cost of its character - the original hardwood floors, the wood burning fireplace, and the solid wood front door.

Not everything needs to be replaced to feel new again.

Early on, we imagined expanding the home, adding a primary suite. We quickly learned the project was asking something different from us. Not more. Just thoughtful. Intentional. Connected to what was already there.

There’s no perfectly planned ending for 2 Sachem Path yet. Maybe it becomes a place people return to, year after year. Maybe the right family finds it and begins a new chapter for their own here.

We’ll discover that in time, together.

What I can tell you now is that we intend to share all of it - the exciting parts, the difficult parts, the pivots, the decisions, and everything in between.
