We’ve added a section to the newsletter titled “Somewhere In There” where we try to sift through the entire feed to curate some of pieces that stand out or fit together. What stands out to you? We spend a lot of time asking you to send sounds. But we also want you to listen to sounds. All the sounds. There’s so much out there to hear. We love the not stories on the feed. We love the stories on the feed. So thank you for continuing to make and send and listen and whatever else you’re doing out there.
There are a lot of requests “these days” for virus-related sounds and quarantine-related sounds. You’re of course welcome to add them to the feed but also be sure to visit Radio Aporee’s Coronavirus Map, Cities and Memories StayHomeSounds, and Field Recordings.
Now... to the newsletter! Here’s some music you can listen to while you read.
14 new episodes since the last newsletter. The only Coronavirus episode that’s been contributed was Audio for Quarantine by Garrett D. Tiedemann, where we can spend a few minutes on germs and isolation.
There were a few very thoughtful and sweet contributions reflecting on memory and intimacy. If you missed it, be sure to listen to Magical Mystery Tour by Goodwin Sands Radiogram which takes the stories of people from southeast UK and pairs them to an improvised score. It’s like a package of memories played to a small band. You’ll also find tenderness in The Collector, where audio producer Neil Sandell muses on his relationship to the spoken word.
If you’re feeling trapped at home, you can do a bit of traveling in the feed with katarinavägen 12 by James T. Green which takes us to Sweden, Sargassum File: One by Adriene goes out to sea through mysterious fiction and in Durga Pujo Soundscape, Amshuman takes us to the Durga Pujo celebration in New Delhi.
