I’ve been a ceramic collector for as long as I can remember. I can’t leave a flea market without finding a little piece to add to my shelves. I’m always drawn to the obscure, the overlooked and the so-called “ugly duckling.” An escargot ornament or a slightly wonky vase is my jam.
I’m not sure what first sparked the obsession – maybe it started with the pavlova plate and tea set I inherited from my grandmother – but there is something so special about pieces that carry a bit of history. Their value will never be lost on me.
Beyond collecting for myself, I think pottery and ceramics make the best gifts, especially for the person who has everything. One of my small daily joys is opening the drawer of mugs and choosing one for my morning matcha and evening herbal tea ritual.
In today’s List of Loves, I’m sharing some of my favourite ceramic artists (both local and international), the vintage merchants I source from and an exploration of the medium through different scales and applications.
