Imagine the Owner of the heavens and the earth asking you for a loan.
The One who created every mountain, every ocean, every heartbeat.
The One who owns every treasure beneath the earth and every star above it.
Why would Allah, the Self-Sufficient (Al-Ghani), ask His servants to lend Him anything?
This is one of the Quran’s most beautiful invitations….not because Allah is in need, but because we are.
Allah says:
🟡مَّن ذَا ٱلَّذِى يُقْرِضُ ٱللَّهَ قَرْضًا حَسَنًۭا فَيُضَـٰعِفَهُۥ لَهُۥٓ أَضْعَافًۭا كَثِيرَةًۭ ۚ وَٱللَّهُ يَقْبِضُ وَيَبْصُۜطُ وَإِلَيْهِ تُرْجَعُونَ
“Who is it that will lend Allah a goodly loan so He may multiply it for him many times over? And Allah withholds and grants abundance, and to Him you will be returned.”
(Quran 2:245)
Again, He reminds us:
🟡إِنَّ ٱلْمُصَّدِّقِينَ وَٱلْمُصَّدِّقَـٰتِ وَأَقْرَضُوا۟ ٱللَّهَ قَرْضًا حَسَنًۭا يُضَـٰعَفُ لَهُمْ وَلَهُمْ أَجْرٌۭ كَرِيمٌۭ
“Indeed, those who give charity, both men and women, and lend Allah a goodly loan-it will be multiplied for them, and they will have a noble reward.”
(Quran 57:18)
And He promises:
إِن تُقْرِضُوا۟ ٱللَّهَ قَرْضًا حَسَنًۭا يُضَـٰعِفْهُ لَكُمْ وَيَغْفِرْ لَكُمْ ۚ وَٱللَّهُ شَكُورٌ حَلِيمٌ
“If you lend Allah a goodly loan, He will multiply it for you and forgive you. And Allah is Most Appreciative, Most Forbearing.”
(Quran 64:17)
Allah does not ask because He lacks.
He asks because He wants to honor us. Just think about it for a moment.
He could have commanded us to give.
Instead, He calls it a loan (qardan hasanan).
A loan carries a promise of return.
Not only return…a promise of increase.
when you give sincerely for Allah’s sake, your wealth has not disappeared.
it has merely changed locations.
From your hands...to your account with Allah.
what bank offers such security?
what investment guarantees multiplication without risk?
Allah Himself becomes the Guarantor.
In this world, investments fluctuate.
currencies rise and fall. businesses fail. markets crash.
but Allah’s investment never depreciates.
every coin given secretly.
every meal shared.
every orphan comforted.
every masjid built.
every Qur’an gifted.
every student helped.
every struggling family supported.
nothing is forgotten.
Allah says:
مَّثَلُ ٱلَّذِينَ يُنفِقُونَ أَمْوَٰلَهُمْ فِى سَبِيلِ ٱللَّهِ كَمَثَلِ حَبَّةٍ أَنۢبَتَتْ سَبْعَ سَنَابِلَ فِى كُلِّ سُنۢبُلَةٍۢ مِّا۟ئَةُ حَبَّةٍۢ ۗ وَٱللَّهُ يُضَـٰعِفُ لِمَن يَشَآءُ ۗ وَٱللَّهُ وَٰسِعٌ عَلِيمٌ
“The example of those who spend their wealth in the way of Allah is like a seed of grain that grows seven ears; in every ear are a hundred grains. And Allah multiplies for whom He wills. Allah is All-Encompassing, All-Knowing.”
(Quran 2:261)
One seed. seven hundred grains. and then Allah says He may increase it even more.
who can calculate a reward that comes from the Most Generous?
The Quran doesn’t simply say “a loan.”
It says:
Qardan Hasana-(قَرْضًا حَسَنًا )- a beautiful loan.
a beautiful loan is not measured only by its amount.
it is measured by the heart behind it.
a beautiful loan is:
given sincerely for Allah alone,
earned through halal means,
offered without showing off,
free from reminders or hurtful words,
given with love rather than reluctance.
sometimes the smallest gift outweighs the largest donation because Allah weighs hearts before He weighs numbers.
Many of us wait to see Allah’s repayment in our bank accounts.
sometimes He does increase wealth. but often His returns arrive in forms no currency can buy!
He returns your charity as:
peace during hardship,
children who make dua for you,
protection from unseen calamities,
unexpected opportunities,
contentment with little,
forgiveness for forgotten sins,
light in the grave,
shade on the Day of Judgment,
and ultimately, Jannah.
His repayment is never limited to money.
sometimes Allah removes a disaster that would have cost far more than what you gave.
how would we ever know?
-we won’t.
until the day when every hidden reward is unveiled.
Allah describes faith itself as a transaction.
He says:
“O you who believe! Shall I guide you to a trade that will save you from a painful punishment?”
(Quran 61:10)
The believer is not merely worshipping. The believer is investing.
every prayer.
every fast.
every act of charity.
every sacrifice.
every sincere smile.
nothing is wasted.
Allah purchases from us what was already His-and then pays us far beyond its worth.
There are days when charity feels expensive.
when savings seem too small.
when responsibilities feel heavy.
yet this is exactly when Shayṭan whispers: “If you give, you’ll have less.”
but Allah answers that fear with a promise:
“Shayṭaan threatens you with poverty and commands you to immorality, while Allah promises you forgiveness from Him and bounty. And Allah is All-Encompassing, All-Knowing.”
(Quran 2:268)
fear counts what leaves your hand. faith counts what reaches Allah.
There is a day coming when every hidden act of generosity will stand before us.
the few coins we thought were insignificant.
the anonymous donation.
the meal we quietly sponsored.
the smile we offered to ease another’s burden.
the Quran we gifted.
the water we provided.
nothing will be missing. on that Day, we will finally understand that we never made Allah richer.
He SWT was always enriching us.
Perhaps Allah asks us for a loan because He SWT wants us to trust Him.
Every act of giving is a declaration:
“My provision is not in my wallet.
My provision is with Allah.”
the believer who gives is not becoming poorer.
they are transferring temporary wealth into an eternal account.
one day, when this life has faded like a passing sunset, every worldly investment will be left behind.
except one. The loan that was given to Allah.
And Allah never breaks His promise🤍
فِي أَمَانِ اللَّهِ
