There is a quiet wisdom hidden in Allah’s creation.
Not every lesson comes through words.
Some are written into rivers.
Others are carved into mountains.
One teaches us to move.
The other teaches us to remain.
And perhaps the art of living is learning when to become each.
Allah chose water to be the origin of life.
“And We made from water every living thing. Will they not then believe?”
(Qur’an 21:30)
Water does not argue with the shape of the land.
it bends without breaking.
it takes the form of every vessel without losing its essence.
It nourishes quietly.
cleanses gently.
gives life wherever it reaches.
when rain falls, it does not choose only beautiful gardens.
it falls equally upon fertile fields and barren deserts.
it simply fulfills the purpose Allah created it for.
perhaps there are moments when our hearts are meant to resemble water.
to forgive instead of keeping count.
soften instead of hardening.
adapt without abandoning our principles.
to keep moving instead of remaining trapped in yesterday’s pain.
water teaches us that yielding is not weakness.
sometimes it is wisdom.
sometimes flowing forward is the bravest thing we can do.
the oceans never swallow the skies.
the rivers never forget where they belong.
Allah says:
“And it is He who released the two bodies of flowing water: one fresh and sweet, and one salty and bitter. And He placed between them a barrier and an impassable boundary.”
(Qur’an 25:53)
Even water, the symbol of gentleness has limits established by Allah.
mercy does not mean permitting injustice.
kindness does not require abandoning dignity.
patience does not mean accepting oppression forever.
there is a sacred balance between an open heart and protected boundaries.
water flows.
but it does not lose itself…
Mountains stand where storms cannot persuade them to move.
Allah says:
“And He placed firmly set mountains upon the earth lest it should shake with you...”
(Qur’an 16:15)
they anchor the earth.
they endure seasons without complaint.
rain falls.
winds howl.
snow gathers.
yet they remain.
not because life is easy.
but because Allah created them to stand firm.
there are moments when faith asks us not to bend.
to remain anchored in truth even when the world shifts around us.
to protect our values when compromise becomes fashionable.
to say “no” when saying “yes” would cost us our integrity.
some battles are not won by movement.
they are won by steadfastness.
The Quran offers a remarkable reminder.
“Then your hearts became hardened after that, being like stones or even harder. Yet there are stones from which rivers burst forth, and others split open and water comes out of them, and others fall down in awe of Allah...”
(Quran 2:74)
Even rocks...
can release rivers.
even stones...
can break open.
even mountains...
bow before their Creator.
strength without mercy becomes hardness.
conviction without humility becomes arrogance.
Allah reminds us that even the strongest parts of creation know how to soften before Him….So should we.
A river does not mourn every place it leaves behind.
if it stayed clinging to one bend, it would never reach the sea.
some chapters are meant to end.
some people are meant to leave.
some dreams are meant to transform into better ones.
Allah says:
“...Perhaps you dislike something while it is good for you, and perhaps you love something while it is bad for you. Allah knows, and you do not know.”
(Quran 2:216)
water teaches us trust.
it keeps moving because it does not fear the path its Lord has written for it.
perhaps letting go is not losing.
perhaps it is simply flowing toward the destination Allah has already prepared.
Yet there are truths we must never release.
our faith.
and prayers. honesty. compassion. hope.
Allah says:
“So remain steadfast as you have been commanded...”
(Quran 11:112)
Not every burden should be laid down.
some commitments deserve the strength of mountains.
when storms of doubt arrive...
be a rock.
when temptations whisper...
be a mountain.
when the world asks you to trade your faith for approval...remain exactly where Allah planted you.
Life will ask us both questions.
“Can you let go?”
And...
“Can you stand firm?”
Wisdom is knowing which question Allah is asking today.
There are days to become water. To forgive. To heal. To adapt. To move forward.
And there are days to become rock. To remain steadfast. To protect your faith. To endure patiently. To refuse what displeases Allah.
One without the other leaves us incomplete. Water without firmness loses direction. Rock without tenderness forgets compassion.
Allah created both.
And perhaps He intends His servants to learn from both.
be gentle enough to nourish hearts like rain.
be strong enough to withstand storms like mountains.
flow where Allah opens the path.
stand where Allah commands you to remain.
for the believer is neither endlessly rigid nor endlessly yielding.
the believer moves with wisdom...soft in character, firm in principle, humble before people, and utterly unshakable before Allah.
That is the balance written into creation.
Between water...
and rocks.
Ya Allah, grant us hearts that know when to flow and when to stand firm. Make us gentle without becoming weak, and steadfast without becoming hard-hearted.
Let us release what distances us from You, and hold tightly to all that brings us nearer to You. Like rain, let us be a source of mercy wherever we go; like mountains, let us remain unwavering upon Your truth.
Guide us to live with wisdom, balance, and complete trust in Your decree. aameen.
Until next time,
