You know what never gets old is reappropriating a silk scarf, especially these days (meaning during summer) when the options for how to turn it into a top are virtually endless: there’s the tie-at-neck, tie-at-lower-back halter hit, the tie-two-square-scarves-together tank topper, the v-shaped tied tube top — I could go on.
Same concept (and jeans, 2021)
But less practiced renditions such as the cross bra, straight tube and Spanish cascading halter are great, lesser-tried options to consider before the season’s end.
And now that we’ve grown rich in pareo after nearly two seasons of incorporating them into our off-beach looks (over pants! As skirts fastened with belts!), we can throw in a few as replacements for the silk scarf. So here are 6 less practiced ways to recycle the most important content in your carry-on summer suitcase —
Actually, sorry, it’s 7, because the wrap skirt/pareo deserves a visual mention —
A few more silk shirts in various colors here, here, here. Meanwhile the shape of the “skirt” is deliberately rectangular (like this) — make sure to go long (the vertical way) with this one so as to avoid too much material bunching where you’ll pin it
Onwards to the rest, including 3 top-uses and 3 accessory (hair, waist, shoulder strap) uses —
Another good use case for the long pareo (or pool wrap): tie into a crop top. The vibe is this/this. It’s a good way to fashion yourself into a going out look with the contents of your day look. “Top” here is from Soleil Soleil.
Rest of the look: Pucci capris, Row shoes, Savette bag (the best shape I’ve encountered recently — and it fits so much). Thistles sunglasses. Pearl anklet here 🦋 (I love these from Roxanne Assoulin too)
Lido pareo strikes again, this time as a cummerbund between a pair of black silk pants (these from Giuliva Heritage but any pair from these, these to these are fair game); Aflalo top, Dries scarf bag (big, small; or the double entendre), LMC choker and banging bangles
It’s like wearing a towel over your shoulders, but not. Hermes silk scarf (the dimensions are like 35 by 35: cute from Alemais here, viva McQueen here, already fashioned into a top here), with a belt holding it in place, and an open button down for a little extra coverage if you so feel it is necessary. Surf shorts are here! Bag here. Charm bracelet is Jamie Haller!
Here’s how it ties at the back: once at the top and once at the bottom, you’ll also notice the fold over at top. You don’t have to add a belt but I like that it anchors the look. Would have styled the belt around my chest but I liked the tension between the belt and the paper bag waist. In case you were wondering!!!
