I moved back to my previous home along the Central California Coast this weekend. In many ways, it was incredibly easy, thanks to the fact that I’m (for now) still a single, childless woman with minimal material possessions to move. And in many ways, it was difficult and symbolic, given my age and the phase of life I’m now in. Everything feels different when you’re reaching 40; investments mean more, big changes can feel more expensive, and life inevitably gives you more to reflect upon, to weigh in.
But the largest hump is over, and now the integration and acclimation to my new life begin.
As a result of this major move and all of the time and energy entailed, I’ve decided to skip my weekly Substack article and share my recent podcast episode with you all instead.
As with everything I write and talk about these days, it’s all connected—all aspects of my work can touch each other, even if only at the root. This recent move (which I’ll be writing about in the weeks to come) ties in with the topic of PCOS, as it’s a set of metabolic patterns that I’ve experienced my entire adult life, resulting from the unsustainable pace at which I had learned to live early in life. And this has had cumulative impacts on my female reproductive health and overall metabolic functions as I’ve aged.
The number of times I’ve moved homes as an adult and the pace my life took on might be excessive enough to be uncommon, but unfortunately, PCOS patterns are not. As I outline in the podcast episode, the medical criteria for diagnosing, treating, and understanding PCOS culturally misses a lot and can leave women feeling helpless over their own bodily experiences and healing capacities. Therefore, I suggest reading any medical literature or website info (such as that I linked above) with a grain of salt—understanding that the medical community is not the end-all, be-all on this topic.
All of my podcast episodes are free for everyone to listen to, even if I don’t post them all in here—they’re still available on all podcast apps. My Substack articles, however, will be primarily for subscribers, with one free piece sent out to everyone each month. If you’d like to receive weekly articles from me and keep up with my long-form work on here, please consider becoming a subscriber.
Enjoy the episode!
