Josh Levine ⚡️ · The Job Sh*t Show

Fletcher Wimbush, CEO of Discovered, spent his career building a hiring platform meant to fix a broken system, and he'll still tell you nothing about hiring has actually improved in hundreds of years.

My biggest takeaway: “You can no longer wing it.”

Fletcher’s core reframe: most hiring failures start before a single resume gets read. Employers skip the job analysis, the 15 minutes it takes to define what good actually looks like in clear, measurable terms, and go straight to asking AI to write a job description instead. For a people leader, this cuts close to home: it’s not really a hiring problem. It’s a description of a leadership team that’s never had to say out loud what a great year looks like, or what a great hire does differently from a mediocre one. Worth noting on air that a broken hiring process is usually just a broken performance conversation, showing up earlier.

About Fletcher Wimbush

Fletcher is co-author of Hiring Talented Team Players and built Discovered as a new kind of applicant tracking system, one meant to replace the "old robots" with better ones. He's blunt that 87 percent of referral hires turn out good to phenomenal, that resumes are mostly embellishment, and that if you can cheat your way through every filter he's built, he still wants you on his team.
