The struggle between spirituality and worldliness is laborious indeed. The world and its passions are presently strong and upon us on all sides, like an army surrounded by an advancing enemy.
Yet when surrounded, it doesn’t matter in which direction we fling our arrows, because in every direction we turn, except toward ourselves, we slay our enemy.
This is the world. If we stay within ourselves, with Jesus in our hearts, minds, and thoughts, we are safe. While the enemy circles us, he is slain one by one.
But if we are divided, we will certainly fall. For God wants our whole and undivided hearts. So let not our enemy, the world, draw us out by worldliness. Instead, use the world as if it were not, only to step on it to get closer to Christ Jesus on Calvary.
