If the Psychotron reveals how consciousness is transformed, Max Stirner reveals what consciousness is transformed by. His importance to the War Over Reality has been almost entirely overlooked, largely because he has been read either as an eccentric precursor to anarchism or as a particularly extreme advocate of individualism. Such interpretations miss the revolutionary significance of his thought. Stirner was not fundamentally concerned with politics. He was concerned with ontology. More precisely, he was concerned with the strange manner in which human beings become possessed by projections and abstractions of their own creation and then mistake those for reality.
