Jasmin D the RD · Jasmin D the RD

Hello to my lovely community of gut-health obsessed people. I’m Jasmin, you’re favorite gut health dietitian. I wanted to start sending you a weekly article every Monday — as I like to call it “The (Literal) Weekly Digest (TLWD)”.

I’ll be resharing everything I had posted the week before in case you missed it, a recipe I recommend you make the following week, and something I’ll be focusing on for the week - of course, gut health-related.

  1. Sunday Seasonal: Where I provide you with 2-4 new recipes every Sunday that are made with produce that are seasonal to that month.

  2. The only way you're going to use your heirloom tomatoes this season: I started a new, long-term series on socials called…What I actually have for breakfast as a gut health dietitian.” Where I show you breakfast recipes I would make, even if social media didn’t exist!

  3. August Seasonal Produce: I’m your Florida/MA-based dietitian here to tell you that one great habit to incorporate into your routine is to eat seasonally, eat with the months. When you eat foods that are naturally in season, they are not only going to be fresher and tastier, but more nutritious than if they weren’t in season.

  4. No Waste, No Mess: Chia Seed Pudding in a Almond Butter Jar: No food waste here is allowed. This is the only way I’ll be enjoying my almost-empty almond butter or peanut butter jars. This is my Chia Seed Pudding in a Almond Butter Jar recipe and it took me less than 5 minutes to make it.

  5. What I Eat in a Day as a Gut Health Dietitian (While Visiting My Parents): Since I’m not in my own kitchen, I don’t have access to many ingredients I tend to keep in my home. So, I make sure to get creative and use ingredients that my mom likes to keep in her kitchen!

Since it’s officially the month of August, I’ve been obsessed with using every different kind of tomato. Tomatoes are in season and I am nowhere NEAR ready for fall produce — leave me be with me and my tomatoes!

I <3 tomatoes

If you weren’t aware, tomatoes contain an antioxidant called lycopene. Lycopene is a naturally occurring carotenoid predominantly found in tomatoes. It exists in papaya, guava, apricot, watermelon, and pink grapefruit as well. Lycopene has been reported to be one of the strongest antioxidants among carotenoids. It’s been linked to protect our bodies against oxidative stress (aging) and supporting our overall health. It may have protective effects against neurodegenerative disease, gastrointestinal disease, and most importantly cardiovascular disease.

No matter when I can, you will be catching me adding tomatoes to my meals.

This week on The (Literal) Weekly Digest, I’m focusing on being intentional with my phone. I don’t mean to be that annoying content creator that brags when they’ve taken time off their phone. It’s unfortunate that I have to even disclose to you that my relationship with my phone can be toxic to my mental well being. It was last Thursday when I felt as if my brain was going to implode on itself. I had 1001 thoughts all at the same time because of how much I’m checking my phone. I had content I needed to post but said f**k it, I’m leaving.

I “bricked” myself out of both Instagram and TikTok from Thursday mid-day to Sunday mid-day.

I was taking time to be present with my husband. I watched two movies without doom scrolling at the same time. I did errands around the house I’ve been meaning to do (like clean out my silverware drawer). I spent time on the beach. I rearranged my entire closet. I created the Jasmin D the RD Gut Health Library on Substack where you can find any and ALL articles and recipes I’ve written over the past 5 years (that took 4 days…) I felt the creative part of my brain turn on because I was truly, “being” and allowing creative thoughts to hit me instead of actively looking for them. I also spent SO much more time on Substack than I ever have and I’ve never read so many high-quality articles.

Take it from your go-to gut health dietitian and content creator and be intentional with how you spend your time. Take space up in your life — pick up a new hobby, go back to an old hobby you used to do but didn’t have time for, buy a Brick to ensure you’re spending time off your phone, do meditation and yoga to bring your nervous system back to the ground. Whatever you choose to do, just make sure you’re bringing your awareness back to you.

  1. Food Favorite: Terranean Zaatar Blend- my go-to za’atar brand that I trust using. It tastes as good as my Syrian grandmother’s!

  1. Gut Health Favorite: MasterMedi Tongue Scraper - yes, your oral microbiome is directly connected to your gut microbiome. Taking care of your dental hygiene is just as important!

  2. Skin Favorite: Caudalie Vinoperfect Brightening Dark Spot Serum Vitamin C Alternative- let me tell you… when I went to Paris this spring, I stocked up on Caudalie. It’s my go-to skincare brand. I’ve been using their Brightening Dark Spot Serum and their Brightening Dark Spot Niacinamide Moisturizer since May and I’ve definitely noticed a difference in my skin. It’s brighter, it’s more hydrated, and it’s healthier. My esthetician can vouch for me on that!

  3. Storage Favorite: 2 oz Small Clear Glass Bottles - this is how I save my money, I make my own turmeric ginger shots using these cute 2oz bottles.

  4. Kitchen Favorite: OXO Handheld Mandoline - this is what makes cooking fun and easy! Everyone should have a mandoline in their kitchen. It’s an easy way to slice onions, cucumbers, celery, zucchini, etc.

Whenever I partner with brands I truly love, I make sure to secure discount codes for you—so you can try my trusted recommendations as a gut health dietitian.

  • Ka’Chava: JASMIN15 - “optimal blend of essential nutrients and functional foods to nourish you from head to toe”.

  • SideDish: JASMIND15 - “sauces and dressings made without over-processed seed oils (prefer 100% avocado oil), refined sugar, gluten, dairy, or preservatives.”

  • Drink Wholesome: real foods for 10% off - “Minimally-Processed Protein Powder for Sensitive Stomachs”

  • Oliva Dorado: Jasmin15 - Harvested early in Spain at peak freshness, this extra virgin olive oil delivers a bold, vibrant flavor you simply can’t get from standard oils.
