February 14th is for lovers,
for sweethearts and roses and cards.
But today is the day set aside for loving me.
What if today, on Self-Love Day,
I treated myself
the way I wish to be treated
by a soulmate:
because I am my own soulmate.
I am the guardian of my soul.
It is mine to care for, precious
like a baby hatchling
placed gently in my hands.
On Self-Love Day,
I could sleep until noon,
or wake early to watch the sunrise.
I could make myself a luxurious breakfast,
or sip a simple, healthy smoothie.
I could sink into a warm bubble bath,
or let the shower rain down on me,
or I could choose not to bathe at all.
I could stay in my pajamas all day,
or dress up in my favorite outfit
just because it feels good.
I could answer my phone and texts,
or turn on Do Not Disturb
and give myself the gift of quiet.
I could turn up the music and dance,
or sit in stillness and listen inward.
I could make hot cocoa or chamomile tea.
I could read a book,
or watch endless hours of TV.
I could be kind to myself
and set no expectations at all.
I could put on makeup,
or smooth on a cooling face mask.
I could do something kind for a stranger,
because giving feeds my soul.
Or I could empty my piggy bank
and roll up coins, slowly and mindfully.
In the evening
I could set a beautiful table,
silver, china, candlelight,
cook a filet mignon to perfection
and toast myself with champagne.
Or I could order takeout,
leave all the lights on,
and call that perfect too.
I could wash my face
with wonderful-smelling creams,
or choose not to wash it at all.
I could go to bed at 7 p.m.,
or close my eyes at midnight.
Before sleep,
I could write in my journal
everything I love about myself
or simply put on a sleep mask,
rest my head on the pillow,
and let that be enough.
I would send away my Abusive Brain Chatter
Because this day is only about self-love.
No judgment.
No shoulds
No fear.
No negative thoughts.
It is about listening
to my quiet inner voice
and saying,
Today, I trust that I am okay,
not for what I do or don’t do,
but for who I am.
Self-Love is my super power.
What will you do to practice self-love today?
