With the expiration of the New START treaty between the United States and Russia earlier this year, nuclear weapons and the coming arms race have been on the top of many people’s minds. The war in Iran has only heightened concerns.
In a new analysis, experts Christopher Preble and Lucas Ruiz take a scalpel to the logic dictating the assumptions around nuclear weapons and their value as a function of deterrence. Arms control, they argue, is the only sure form of deterrence.
