Chapter Thirty
As promised, Cooper’s sister picked up Syrah at 4:30. The girl seemed skeptical that she’d enjoy herself, but when she was told the pool and splash pad were involved, she got excited. Riese was just grateful she’d actually thought to buy Syrah a swimsuit that summer.
With Syrah gone, Riese closed up the shop and went upstairs to quickly freshen up before Cooper got there. He’d said comfortable clothes, so she chose a nice but basic red T-shirt and a pair of broken-in jeans along with sneakers. This done, she did re-do her makeup—after all, it was still a date—before checking in on Syrah’s room.
Stormy and Jellybeans were chilling together on the bed, but Riese wasn’t worried about them. Instead, she stopped at the Bright Blossom and started counting Squites. The little things constantly darted about, which made it hard, but she eventually landed on there being currently eight hanging around the plant.
That’s less than before for sure. Thank God. They’re really leaving.
