I was strongly nudged to look at Putin because the ground beneath him feels like it’s shifting rapidly now that Ukraine is gaining more and more ground each day, so I wanted to see what the cards have to say. And boy, did they have a lot to share! Buckle up. This reading is a wild ride!
When thinking about this reading, I saw a specific format in my mind’s eye before I started—a past, present, future spread with a full row for each time period—because it felt important to see how the cards show the trajectory of what is to come, including his past actions and how they have led to the fate that is looming, basically like watching the dominos fall piece by piece. This technique was fascinating.
The top card is the overall energy unfolding around Putin now—this card sets the tone for the whole reading (this card is from the Deep, Dark, and Dangerous Oracle). Seemed fitting.

Row 2 with 3 tarot cards from the Horror Tarot and 1 oracle card from Postcards from the Liminal Space representing the present for Putin. (I set this present row to be for the time I pulled the cards on 7/20/26 through the next month till 8/20/26 since this post won’t be published on Substack till 8/14/26).
Row 3 represents the future, but I wanted to be more specific with this time period. The 1st card is for Putin for Autumn 2026 (Sept. through Nov. 2026), 2nd card is for Putin at the end of 2026 (December), and the 3rd card is to represent a card for Putin by the end of 2027 (if he’s still around). And the oracle card represents his fate for the future.
I also set the intention that not only would I read the cards horizontally within each row, BUT I also wanted to be able to read the cards vertically (top to bottom) so I could see how the cards from the past row impacted the present and future cards in order to see which actions, decisions, and energies brought about the consequences or actions in the present and future.
I started the reading with a card from the Deep, Dark, and Dangerous Oracle to see what energy is unfolding around Putin right now and got Nyx (Darkness).
My jaw dropped with this one because it couldn’t be more on the nose.
This card is really interesting because it says the goddess Nyx is the embodiment of the night as one of the primordial deities that emerged at the beginning of the universe. She helped to create the Three Fates (weavers of fate), Hypnos (sleep), Thanatos (death), and Eris (strife and discord) among many others. She’s often referred to the dark mother in Greek mythos.
We know Putin is behind so much of the darkness wreaking havoc in the world right now, but this card actually says, “It is easy to think that Nyx is evil. But she should not be viewed this way. She is simply the night—no judgment on whether that is better than the day. Just different. Paradoxically, Nyx creates night and day (dark and light). She brings balance. Nyx represents the darker nature of how the world works. The darkness is necessary. It is the place of possibility. It is natural and beneficial to experience some cycles of darkness. But don’t fear. You can illuminate your way through the dark times. Not everything unpleasant is evil.”
This card is about duality—dark and light. So, while we view Putin and his ilk as dark energy, the universe sees things in a different light. They see the necessity of these actors on the world stage causing tension that pressures humanity to make changes to balance things out. They see it as a necessary evil. He’s serving a purpose, according to the cards, and since he’s still here, he is still serving some sort of purpose that is needed at this time to kick us into gear. The quicker we jump into action and the more people awaken, the less of a role he will need to play on the world stage. Then he will be gone. Same as Trump and Bibi.
Just wanted to note here that this is the cards talking. I fully feel the 3 faces of evil (Putin/Trump/Netanyahu) are very dark. But I can still deliver the message that the cards want to convey. They see things more neutrally, whereas those of us who are suffering in this world have no qualms about labeling things as good and evil.
And we see right away the card that started it all. The first domino to fall that knocked the others over was his God complex with that Magician card, meddling in things he shouldn’t have, invading Ukraine and screwing with the elections of so many countries, including installing Trump in the USA. His downfall was caused by his overreach. In this deck (The Horror Tarot), the Magician is portrayed as the Mad Scientist that they describe as Godlike, tampering with creation to alter the future and taking destiny into their own hands, and we can see him mixing potions. We know that Putin’s enemies often end up poisoned if not thrown off buildings. And see the evil looking dark mass floating out of the vial he’s pouring?
How many deaths is he truly responsible for? How much darkness has he released out into the world during his reign? All of that will be coming back on him tenfold. He’s the evil mastermind behind so much of the ills of the world.
The Horror Tarot guidebook for the Magician upright says, “What evil scheme do you have up your sleeve? Your mind is bubbling with ideas that can change the world, but what serum do you need? Test your spell and your skills to see what mixture will conjure up your secret plan.”
I’ve long suspected that Putin has been using some sort of medicine (or serum like this card suggests) to stay alive. This is in the past row, and we see Death at the end of the 2nd row, so this makes me think that serum or remedy has run its course and his demise is imminent.
