With the 2026 midterms coming up in early November in the United States, it’s time to start looking at these elections. I’m starting with the House of Representatives, and in 2 weeks, I’ll look at the Senate. These two readings will be the only ones I do. I won’t be looking at individual races across the states because I have such a long list of topics that I think are more deserving of my time. Let’s face it, we really just want to know at the end of the day who controls both bodies of Congress (House and Senate).
The way I set my intention for this reading was to see which party would be in the majority after the new congress is sworn in. I’ve learned from past mistakes where other readers asked who won and those predictions didn’t come true due to cheating in the 2016 and 2024 elections. I’m not asking which party will win the most votes here just in case there are shenanigans in the midterm elections. So, even if the election is stolen, I’d still see in this spread WHO is sworn in as the majority. That’s all I care to know. This is my way of getting around the whole cheating debacle.
For this reading, I came up with a new spread format to uncover the answer to my question. I used two different Rider Waite Smith Tarot decks to look at the different parties, so each party had the full range of the tarot (all 78 cards) for their card pulls. The top row is for the Democrats, and the second row represents the Republicans. I’m looking at the first three tarot cards in each row to see which party holds power. Here’s what I’m looking for when scanning both rows: who has major arcanas in their row and are those majors positive or negative, do any kings (card for leadership) land in either row, do the America cards land in either row (Empress and/or Star), and which party has the most positive cards versus negative cards overall.
The narrative of the cards is secondary. It doesn’t matter as much as the criteria I set as described above due to how I set my intentions. But I will still consider the story the cards tell. I also pulled 1 I Ching Oracle card for each party to give us more context.
Looking at the first row for Democrats gives us a quick answer to my question. The Dems are the only party with a major arcana (Empress), and it’s both a card to represent America AND it is a VERY positive major arcana card. With America landing here as the first card, this says America sides with the Dems. There is a king here (King of Wands), which shows leadership/mastery for the Democratic party. It’s ironic that it is the king that represents Trump but that doesn’t even matter. We are going down our check list to see which party checks most of these criteria off. So, Dems have leadership/power cards in their favor, The Empress (America) in their corner, and the 9 of Cups is one of the most positive cards in the deck as it is called the Wish card. We get our wish come true here! And that Empress also represents something new. She’s fertile and gives birth to something she’s created/nurtured. She represents a new fertile beginning!
*And that King of Wands could be Hakeem Jeffries. He’s a Leo (King of Wands), so that king/leadership card could be showing up to show he will be in power as the new Speaker of the House. That usually is my Page of Wands card for that position. But the King of Wands is a bigger energy than that page. Could be signaling a shift in the power in Washington!
If all that wasn’t enough, the I Ching card, Revolution, says, “Your intuition is right: a major change is coming. Things cannot go on as they are. Out with the old and in with the new.”
“Revolution is not something that should be done lightly. You should be clear on your motivation. Think about the repercussions. Is this the best course of action to have the most benefit? You’ll need to lean on those close to you and help them understand the circumstances (your hopes and fears), so they can help you move forward.”
This is obviously referring to the voters. The Dems have to get their priorities straight, listen to what the voters want, and make their case to earn their vote!
“Make sure the timing is right and that you have prepared accordingly. Change can be scary, but if it is for the right reasons, then good things will come of it. Trust in the greater plan and be fearless. This is a time to gather support. To be successful, you have to work for positive change.”
That last line had big Mamdani vibes. He’s showing people what is possible, and I think Mamdani’s leadership over the past several months is going to help Democrats, even though most people don’t consider the Dems progressive enough. But he’s definitely showing how bad the GOP strategies are. So, when people compare the two parties, they will pick the party closest to what they want.
And if we want to look at the narrative that the cards laid out here for the Dems, I see American voters (Empress) voting against Trump in a protest vote (King of Wands), and we get our wish (9 of Cups) in the end. That Empress is also the card that represents women and mothers. Those women will come out in droves to vote. Many are still mad over Roe v. Wade being overturned and many are angry at how RFK, Jr. has endangered their children and their families due to his antivaxxer beliefs and the way his poor leadership has led to measles outbreaks and food recalls/food-bourne illnesses like the recent Cyclospora outbreak. Expect to see large groups of women voting! I think it’s going to be too big to rig with the voter turnout. That Empress is BIG energy, and she’s the biggest energy in this whole spread. No other card comes close to matching her here. She’s pulled my focus since she first jumped out.
Seems the voters are voting more against Trump and his administration than for the Dems, but this is the way it has to be because with that “Revolution” card, the voters know we can’t continue on this way. Something’s got to give and like the card said, “out with the old and in with the new.” I was looking for any sign or message of a change/transition because if the Dems take over, the GOP must hand over that gavel. And this card just told me they will.
But I’d expect some surprises too with that changing of the guards message because we might seem some Mamdani-like candidates win seats! There’s a revolution coming for both parties. Some on the left are going to want to vote in candidates who are really wanting to serve the people, and right now that’s not something many of us can say about our representatives on either side. Although, the Dems are WAY better than the GOP. But we really do deserve better.
I just got the song, “We’re not gonna take it” by Twisted Sister for that “Revolution” card with the energy of the masses standing up to Trump and the GOP. If they plan on cheating, this is the energy they will be going up against. I bolded the lyrics below that stood out to me as relevant.

Right off the bat, we see the Republicans have NO major arcana cards. That’s a big deal and a strike against them for holding power. They also have no kings to show leadership/mastery for their side. This Queen of Pentacles is a positive card, but she is the only one they have. The 8 of Swords is definitely a negative card for feeling bound and stuck (their own fault), and the 6 of Cups is a card called “nostalgia,” representing yearning for the past. This is not a forward-thinking or forward-looking card. It’s also my MAGA card. And since it’s a card with children in it, this 6 of Cups often represents the children abused by Epstein. So that issue is working against them, too.
The I Ching oracle card for the GOP even sums it all up for me with the “Repairing” card that says, “Things have gone wrong, and it may be your fault. Step back and examine the situation carefully. You can’t ignore it. It needs fixing. This is a great opportunity to make things better if you look inward and look closely to figure out how you got here. What old habits did you fall into? What bad choices did you make?”
To me, this is them needing to reflect on how they made a bad choice with backing Donald Trump in the first place and not standing up to him this term in Congress because the voters are going to make them pay for that.
“Work on correcting those bad choices with energy, enthusiasm, preparation and dedication. Repairing things that have fallen apart is challenging. It requires courage to be willing to look inward. You may need to have difficult conversations or let go of things from your past. Make amends.”
This is pointing to them being stuck due to bad choices they made with that 8 of Swords card because that figure is bound due to self-imprisonment/self-sabotage. And this Repairing card is also pointing to that Six of Cups tarot card when it says, “You need to let go of the past and make amends.”
“Work hard to make things right. Don’t be discouraged. Move slowly and deliberately and believe in yourself. You must work hard to change things for the better. And seek guidance on that.”
Do we really believe they will do any of this soul searching that this card suggests? Not really. Not until Trump is gone and they’ve lost everything. But one day they will have to look back and do an autopsy on where things went wrong, and it will go all the way back to 2016 when they allowed him to take their party over and run as their candidate in the 2016 election.
He was right then before he sold his soul to be close to power once Trump “won.” And now he’s dead and buried as Trump slept through his funeral. That’s karma!
To read the GOP’s cards narratively for that second row, we see they throw big money into the elections with that Queen of Pentacles (likely Elon Musk’s money), but it’s not enough to push them over the edge. They are stuck with that 8 of Swords. They shot themselves in the foot and have no momentum now. They are bound and restricted. With the 8 of Swords, it is possible to get unstuck, BUT that requires self-reflection, a perspective shift, and an effort to correct bad habits that sabotage you (like the I Ching card suggested). They aren’t going to do that in 2.5 months.
With the 6 of Cups, we see that MAGA most likely will NOT show up for them like they need them to. Often they don’t when Trump’s not on the ballot but also, he’s losing many of them over Iran and Epstein and rising inflation/costs. My MAGA reading and the polls show that loud and clear. And being stuck on wanting to go backwards and not forwards is not a winning strategy for the GOP because they have to carry Independents, not just Conservatives to win. That outdated thinking just leaves them stuck and out of power. They have no control here.
Both of the first cards in each row are female figures: Empress (Dems) and Queen of Pents (GOP). The Empress is looking up at us, scepter raised high, certain of her role, her power, and her purpose. I’m drawn to her scepter here, which symbolizes royal power, sovereignty, and authority. The Queen of Pents is focused on the money in her hand.
Both middle figures are sitting still. The male in the 9 of Cups (Dems) is looking straight at us again, no blindfold, clear-eyed. He knows what he wants and he is manifesting it—creating the reality he wants and desires (he’s in control). The 8 of Swords (GOP) is bound and blindfolded. Not achieving anything. Not controlling anything either. They are actually self-sabotaging.
The last cards are interesting, we have the King of Wands to represent a leader, but it also represents Trump and the 6 of Cups represents MAGA (whose numbers are diminishing by the day according to polls). How interesting that those 2 cards are both here in the same position. Trump isn’t on the ballot per se. Oh, but he is in a way. His policies are. And that is all it will take to bring out the voters in that top row.
MAGA never liked the GOP establishment. I can see them not voting to keep them in power this go round, especially after a decade of broken promises from Trump. Many are weary and just don’t want to vote anymore. They originally voted for Trump to break up that establishment and shake things up in Washington. But they got nothing for it in the end.
And even the I Ching cards are similar in the sense that they both talk about requiring change. The “Revolution” card focuses on getting your motivations straight and pushing for positive change while gathering support while the “Repairing” card demands reflection to identify what the party did wrong and that will require them fixing what they broke and fixing the bad choices they made in order to make amends for those wrongs. So, both parties will need to change but for different reasons.
When I first started shuffling for this spread, a card flipped itself over in the deck but didn’t jump out. It was the Wheel of Fortune. I didn’t take the card for the spread because I was shuffling so quickly that it got shuffled right back into the middle of the deck, but I caught a glimpse of it, so I’m mentioning it here. I think anything that happens in a reading is meaningful, and now after seeing all the other cards in this reading, I think that Wheel of Fortune was signaling that a transition is coming-a changing of the guards as the wheel turns. This is also a card of fate and karma. I believe karma is helping to balance the scales again.
2026 is a 10/1 year, which is a time of one 10-year cycle closing and another beginning. It has been 10 years since Trump began his first term. It seems fitting to basically end his reign by tying his hands legislatively by flipping the House, which controls the power of the purse. If Dems control the House, they control the money, and he won’t have any of his ideas funded! His time in power is coming to a close. And we will begin a new cycle that is forward thinking.
To close out this reading, I pulled one card from the Light Seers Tarot and asked, “How do we (the opposition to Trump and the GOP) feel about the results when they swear in the new Congress in the House of Representatives in early 2027?
Whoo hoo! We got the 10 of Cups! So, here we are overwhelmed with tears/happiness/joy! One of the most joyful, happiest cards in the deck. That makes this reading pretty clear from beginning to end. If we are this happy, then I definitely see the Dems being in the majority in the House of Representatives in early 2027 once the new Congress is sworn in.
When doing it this way, it is a pretty fast spread to interpret. I think I’m going to use this same format when I read on the Senate coming up.
And you can see that when you spend time on the front end clearly setting up a format to serve your needs and setting clear intentions and assigning cards certain meaning like I did with the tarot majors and kings, you get clear, quick answers!

This week marks 1 year since my novel, Here There Be Witches, released. I’m so proud of this book! It hardly seems like a year could have flown by already. But I’ve already finished my sixth novel in that time that will release in Spring 2027, so now is a perfect time to read Here There Be Witches if you haven’t yet. That book chronicles the witch incarnation of my main characters in the Divining Sisters Series during the 1645-47 witch hunts in Essex, England. My next novel will detail their witch incarnation during the Salem Witch Trials.
While both Here There Be Witches and my next novel are prequels to my series, The Divining Sisters Series, they are interconnected stand alone novels, so you may want to read this one before my next witchy novel drops. It’s not necessary, but there is some overlap as each of their incarnations shape their next, and we learn of the fate they met in Here There Be Witches in my next novel, which I’ll reveal the title of closer to the New Year.
If you want to read all my novels, I would suggest reading them in the order I wrote them starting with Book 1 in The Divining Sisters Series – The Call of the Cards. I say that because I think it’s more fun and interesting to discover the past lives as the characters discover them on their awakening journey.
