A man accused of deliberately setting a fire in a public washroom in downtown Fredericton earlier this year denied the allegation and will stand trial next June.

John Michael Sanford, 22, of no fixed address, appeared in Fredericton provincial court Monday to answer to indictable charges alleging he intentionally caused damage by fire to the public washroom in Officers Square in downtown Fredericton and that he damaged property in that washroom, both on March 2.

Defence counsel Jael Duarte told the court her client was electing to be tried in provincial court and pleading not guilty to those charges.
