Knowlesville case was murder-suicide - RCMP

The deaths of two men found in a rural, up-river home last week was the result of a murder-suicide, the New Brunswick RCMP’s major crime unit reports.

The RCMP announced last Friday that two bodies were found in a home in Knowlesville, about 45 kilometres northeast of Woodstock, two days prior.

“On Aug. 12, 2026, at approximately 9:49 p.m., members of the Western Valley Region RCMP responded to a report of two sudden deaths at a residence on Knowlesville Road in Knowlesville, N.B.,” it said.

“When police arrived at the scene, they located a 68-year-old man and a 74-year-old man, both from the community, deceased inside the residence. The two men were known to each other, and there is no threat to public safety.”

The force’s major crime unit took over the file, the release said, as the deaths were deemed to be suspicious in nature.

In an update Wednesday morning - a week after the bodies were found - the RCMP’s major crime unit announced it had wrapped up its investigation into the case, noting that autopsies of both bodies had been completed.

“The investigation has determined that one of the men’s deaths was the result of a homicide, and that the other’s was the result of a self-inflicted wound,” Wednesday’s release stated.

“A firearm was recovered at the scene. Due to the circumstances surrounding the deaths, no criminal charges will be laid.”
