Some time ago, I randomly discovered the book «The Sovereign Individual: Mastering the Transition to the Information Age»
Published in 1997, the book’s ideas were materialized 10 to 20 years later.
Surprisingly how accurately the future was predicted there:
It feels like something big is about to happen.
The end of everything we know. The beginning of something we may never understand.
We are stepping into an Information Society
For the first time, those who can educate themselves will be almost entirely free to invent their own work and realize the full benefits of their own productivity.
In the cybereconomy, they will never see you.
The brightest, most successful, and most ambitious of these will emerge as truly Sovereign Individuals.
Anyone with a portable computer and a satellite link will be able to conduct almost any information business.
This means that you will no longer be obliged to live in a high-tax jurisdiction in order to earn a high income.
Maybe now, it sounds very obvious, but back in 1997, it sounded like something unreal.
The authors of the book predicted:
The collapse of the traditional nation-state
The rise of digital tribes
The end of geographic monopoly
The emergence of mobile, self-directed individuals
A world where wealth comes from ideas rather than factories
They wrote that microprocessing - will change the world economy completely.
And here we are.
Digital business. Borderless companies. Instant payments. Offshore banking Second passports. Multiple residencies. Crypto. Zero-tax zones. Algorithmic borders. AI-driven governance.
It’s what happens when the information age gives you the ability to choose your jurisdiction, your tax base, your lifestyle, and your opportunities.
But at the same you have more restrictions and things are changing fast.
So, you have to be prepared.
Flag Theory is the fundamental concept and the strategy of your personal Plan B.
Harry Schultz, the Swiss consultant, originally developed the Three Flag Theory, and later added two additional flags, to further diversify his Flag Principles of Flag Design.
Flag Theory is a framework for strategically planting “flags” (such as a bank account, legal entity, or residency and real estate) in different countries and jurisdictions.
Why To Use Flag Theory?
The average person is born, raised, and lives in the same country permanently, and has only one passport.
Flag Theory is a strategy for managing personal and business assets in different countries in order to optimize legal, tax, and personal privacy advantages.
Let’s understand it first:
The goal of flag theory is to create a “Flags” or Network Of Countries that work together to provide benefits:
Residency Permits: Apply as fast as possible for the second residency at countries with stable political situation
Bank Accounts: Open bank accounts in multiple countries to protect against any single country’s banking system failure.
Cryptocurrency and Bitcoin: Invest in cryptocurrencies and Bitcoin as a way to protect against traditional financial system risks and ensure liquidity across borders.
Online Income: Build an online business that can operate globally.
Real Estate Income: Have a real estate income at least in one country
Freedom isn’t a slogan. It’s a structure.
When you understand this, the entire conversation shifts from “How do I survive what’s coming?” to “How do I position myself strategically?”
Having Plan B is a must. Especially today. And you have to get ready before something happens. Remember Murphy’s Law.
“Anything that can go wrong will go wrong”
Expect the unexpected. Murphy’s Law teaches us to always have a Plan B.
Recent events have shown that countries are interconnected and if or when something happens at one place - it can impact the entire world.
You have to spread your life and assets across different countries to maximize freedom and security and to have other options to ensure you can still live freely and securely, if something goes wrong.
Start with the audit.
Where are you a resident? Where are you a citizen? What does that give you - and what does it cost you? Where are your assets parked? All in one country? Where does your income flow from?
If that is connected to one single government, that’s not freedom - that’s dependency.
Then diversify your life like you diversify a portfolio.
Residency + Citizenship
Get a second residency or a second passport. Not for glamour — for optionality. Pick jurisdictions that respect capital and welcome globally mobile people.
Assets and Real Estate
Spread your assets. Multiple bank accounts. Real estate in more than one country. Exposure to markets that move differently from each other.
Income
Build income streams that aren’t tied to one location, one tax system, or one political mood swing.
Digital Assets
Own something the old system can’t freeze: Bitcoin, crypto liquidity, borderless stores of value.
Your Plan B is really a Plan A for the future: a life where no single government, market, or crisis can trap you.
The more flags you plant, the harder you are to pin down - and the easier it becomes to move, operate, and build on your own terms.
As we discussed at the recent Freedom Business Summit, the shift from single-country dependence to multi-jurisdictional presence is the #1 strategic move in the next 5-7 years. For everyone.
Intermark Global - one of our key partners and speakers - had a session on Building a Personal Freedom Plan.
They broke it down with simple clarity:
Residency. Citizenship. Taxes. Lifestyle. Plan B as an actual strategy.
Most people think about investments in terms of stocks, crypto, or real estate. Very few think about jurisdictional diversification.
Yet it’s one of the highest-leverage investments you can make.
Forget the concept of “safe harbors.”
The only truly safe harbor is the one you build for yourself - a global architecture of citizenships, residencies, and assets that provides maximum flexibility and minimizes exposure to any one government’s whims.
When something changes - a next lockdown, a war conflict, a political shift, a natural disaster, or simply a tax policy written by someone who hates entrepreneurs.
If you have only one base, you’re stuck.
If you have several, you just switch locations like switching Wi-Fi networks.
This idea gets misunderstood more than anything else.
Most think second passports are a flex - a status symbol for the wealthy.
In reality, that is your insurance.
A passport is a permission access.
Having more than one means you have more permissions - to live, move, invest, bank, build, and escape if needed.
And as global mobility programs expand, it’s becoming accessible to anyone who plans early and plays smart.
Passport trading is the new business, and it will just grow in the next years more.
Europe offers the perfect entry point into a multi-jurisdictional life. These programs are about more than just a visa; they are about planting a stable flag.
So, far it is the most reliable options that you can have.

Real estate might look boring, but it is one of the most powerful investment you can make.
Via real estate - you can get return on tour investments, cash flow, residency and high value asset (not always liquid though)
1. The Asset Flag
Property gives you a stable, immovable asset in a new jurisdiction. Buying in places like Greece, Cyprus, or Turkey spreads your risk across multiple economies instead of tying everything to your home country.
2. The Cash Flow Flag
In markets such as Greece, the returns can be strong from day one. Your property can earn income in Euros while simultaneously fulfilling the Golden Visa requirement. The investment pays for the residency.
Southeast Asian real market is highly attractive as well - consider Bali and Thailand - where lifestyle demand, tourism economics is going up.
3. The Residency Flag
The property is your legal entry point to residency. And as these markets appreciate - Cyprus being a good example or Greece and Portugal -give you long term benefit and residency options.
