This flow is part of the waterfall at Emerald Bay in Lake Tahoe.

There are certain sayings that, trite though they may be, guide my days and give me clarity.

One of those is “take things one day (or sometimes one hour or one step) at a time. Another is “go with the flow.” A third is “love it all.” A fourth is “do the next indicated right step.”

Today I have a story for you about going with the flow.

The go with the flow thing makes my life so easy. It does not mean I allow people to take advantage of me. It means I simply accept what is. For example, this morning I woke up and the electricity was out. Ok. Go with the flow. I had company, a friend had stayed the night. There was no news about what caused the outage nor was there any estimate of when we could expect the electricity to return. So we decided to go out for breakfast and to get some coffee. This outage was pretty widespread, but I know that nearby Topaz Lodge has a generator. However, we really didn’t want to go there as we had gone there last night. The electricity was also out in the next valley over, in Smith Valley (I know this because I got a text from a friend who lives there), but apparently not everywhere in the valley, because I called a restaurant called Rosies to see if they had electricity. They did! We went there and had an excellent breakfast (best Huevos Rancheros EVER!), and brought some coffee home. I was beginning to consider next indicated right steps with no electricity, which involved making sure my iPad was charged because I have a wedding tonight and I work off my iPad. But then the electricity came back on. Back to plan A, but both plans A and B allowed for a lot of flexibility as to how I was going to make sure my iPad was charged and I got to my wedding fully present, clean and presentable, with all the tools I need to perform my job in perfect working order.

Going with the flow means I am open to possibilities. Going with the flow means I don’t have everything so structured that there is no room for those possibilities to enter into my life. Going with the flow means I can simply relax and enjoy life.

These are simple little things that are actually quite spiritual, and they are very effective in allowing for Fearlessly Feral Living.

I hope you have an enjoyable day, and go with the flow!
