Doug Jones · Doug for Alabama

Folks,

91 years ago today, President Franklin D. Roosevelt signed the Social Security Act into law. In the decades since, Social Security has become a lifeline for millions of Americans, including millions of hardworking Alabama seniors.

Social Security represents a solemn promise to our seniors: if you work hard and pay into the program throughout your life, you deserve to live your golden years with dignity.

But Tommy Tuberville has a different perspective. He’s called Social Security a “scam” and a “Ponzi scheme.”

On this anniversary, I want to say this loud and clear: Social Security is not a scam. It is a lifeline. For generations of Alabama seniors, Social Security has been one of the only things putting food on the table, paying the power bill, buying medicine, and keeping a roof over their heads.

Let me tell you what a scam actually is.

A scam is running for governor of Alabama while living in a beach house in Florida.

A scam is making secret backroom deals with data center companies to cut Alabamians out of decisions about what gets built in our communities.

A scam is promising veterans that he would donate every dime he makes in Washington to veterans and then never giving them a penny.

A scam is collecting over $93,000 from Social Security yourself, all the while trying to “privatize” it into risky investments so that his rich buddies make money off it.

If Tommy Tuberville is willing to come after Social Security, don’t think he’ll stop there. Whether it’s his attempt to end Social Security, his nearly $1 trillion in cuts to Medicaid, or his cuts to food assistance for Alabama families struggling to put food on the table—when programs that working Alabama families and seniors depend on are on the chopping block, Tuberville is more than willing to rev up the chainsaw.

If he’s elected governor of Alabama, he’s coming for you, your family, and the services hardworking Alabamians have paid into for generations.

We can’t let that happen. We’re running the most competitive campaign for governor Alabama has seen in 20 years, but I need your help to win. If you don’t want a governor who will try to dismantle services like Social Security hardworking Alabama seniors depend on, please make a contribution to my campaign today.
