Building a government that actually works for the people of Alabama is going to take a whole lot more than just winning the governor’s office. I’m proud to be running alongside a wonderful slate of folks for statewide office on the Ticket for Change.
Today, I’d like to introduce you to Jeff McLaughlin, who’s running for Alabama Attorney General.
Jeff is one of the most principled lawyers I’ve ever met. He spent 10 years representing his neighbors in the Alabama Legislature, where he earned a reputation as a “Lone Ranger” for taking on the powerful special interests who control Montgomery.
Like me, Jeff is focused on restoring trust, transparency, and accountability to Alabama’s government, something he’s been working on his whole career. In the Alabama legislature, he fought for and successfully passed a bill banning PAC-to-PAC transfers that allowed powerful interests to hide where political money was coming from.
Jeff also wants to protect Alabama consumers. Whether it is in front of the Public Service Commission or at the checkout line, Jeff wants to restore the AG’s office to be the consumer protection warrior that it was meant to be, rather than just the culture war mouthpiece that it has become.
Today, there’s still a whole lot more work to be done. Too much in Alabama still happens behind closed doors. We see it when massive AI companies swoop into our communities and build data centers before anyone knows what the hell is going on, when our legislators hold secret meetings to redraw our congressional maps, and when our governor voids and reschedules our primary elections.
The Attorney General has a critical role to play in fixing this broken system. The Attorney General’s office has the power to enforce our open meetings laws, hold public officials accountable when they break the law, and make sure the rules apply to the powerful just like they apply to everyone else.
We need an Attorney General who will use their power to stand up for the people of Alabama, not powerful lobbyists and special interests. Jeff has spent his career proving that he will.
