The Whitney’s New Partnership Brings Iconic Art to Your TV

This week, the Samsung Art Store launched a partnership with The Whitney Museum of American Art, meaning anyone with The Frame TV can now enjoy a selection of curated works from The Whitney’s collection and archive. As an art history major and museum geek, I’ve been so impressed with the job Samsung has done in picking partners and pieces to spotlight. Whenever art gets seen by more people, it’s always a win in my book (even if the originals are more breathtaking, of course).

As part of this collab, myself and a few fellow editors got to tour part of The Whitney’s permanent collection with a curator in private, before the museum opened its doors one day last month. It was a very pinch-me, New York City moment, and I definitely want to dig more into the history of the museum now that I know a little more about how it came to be. Above, you’re looking at a photo of The Frame with a digital rendering of one of the museum’s most famous works, the portrait of its founder, Gertrude Vanderbilt Whitney, by the artist Robert Henri. The TV was placed close to where the original was hung, and I couldn’t believe how much the screen captured the colors and brushstrokes so true to life.
