A "Five-Star Weekend" with Homegoods

I just got back from a whirlwind few days out in Los Angeles with HomeGoods to celebrate the launch of the Peacock Original series, The Five-Star Weekend, which is set in gorgeous Nantucket for all the summer vibes. In all my years as an editor, I’ve never attended a red carpet premiere, so it was very exciting to check an item off of my career bucket list. I guess technically the carpet was tan (likely to stand in for sandy island beaches), but we saw Jennifer Garner and author Elin Hilderbrand IRL (along with a number of other stars!), so it totally counts in my book.

But let’s get to the HomeGoods of it all. The brand created so many amazing, East Coast-inspired shoppable moments for us out West that I want to share with you here — because you know I love a HomeGoods tip. In addition to decorating for the premiere’s cocktail hour and after-party with the cutest beach house finds, the talented team also set up a gorgeous, on-theme dinner party for our group. It was so clever how Team HG moved its freestanding outdoor window box planters inside and filled them with the most realistic faux hydrangeas I’ve ever seen. And hanging woven baskets and trays on the wall as decor? That’s the stuff that coastal design dreams are made of! These are easily replicable ideas for a summer gathering, so I’m going to keep them in mind for entertaining, and hope you do, too.

Think you don’t have space for a Murphy bed? Well, have you checked your entry way? I can’t believe how much this family of five fits into their 650-square-foot New York City apartment. But the brightest idea, IMO, has to be the fact that they carved a primary bedroom out of their entry with a strategically-placed wall-mounted bed. It looks like a cabinet most of the time, which is exactly what you’d expect to find in a foyer anyway. That means the household can use the living room round the clock, too, since it doesn’t have to serve as a back-up sleep space.
