Darcy Van Poelgeest · The Vanishing Word

Hey! It’s me, Darcy! Welcome to the fourth issue of The Vanishing Word where I typically chat with newsletter editor, Tania Reitsma, about my process of making comics while keeping you up to date on anything new and exciting. But this time around, we’re just focused on that last part - the update.

But fear not, we’ll be back in May with the How I Make Comics Q&A and our regular Comic Shop Spotlight.

The Cutting Garden - Pre-orders Ending April 20th!

If you have not yet pre-ordered our upcoming graphic novel, The Cutting Garden, this is more-or-less your last chance. You can do this online or anywhere books are sold.

In case you’re looking for some early praise to help motivate you, here’s what some early readers have been saying on the review site, Netgalley.

And some very kind words from my friend, and superstar comic writer, Ram V. Check out pretty much anything he’s written if you’re wanting to read the very best in comics.

The Cutting Garden - Interview with Erin Connally & Darcy Van Poelgeest.

If you want to learn more about the book, including what went into the making of it, AIPT just published a lovely in-depth interview with Erin Connally and myself.

Convention Updates.

Let’s start with the bad. Unfortunately, I’ve had to cancel my appearance at Calgary Fan Expo. It sucks. And I know there were a few folks out there looking forward to meeting me for the first time. So, I promise I’ll be back. I just could not make it happen this time around.

And the good! I’ll be making a one day appearance at Vancouver’s newest comic convention, Rain City Comicon on April 19th! If you happen to be in the area and can make it, I will have some ridiculous deals to clear out some single issue comps so, come on down!

On top of that, I’ll also be a part of a panel talking about how I make a living in the world of comics along with the legendary Faith Erin Hicks (who I’m certain will have better advice than me on this topic).

We’ll be back next month to pick up where we left off in March with the How I Make Comics Q&A focusing on going from an outline to a first draft. I hope you’ll join us!

Thank you for reading! Be kind to yourself – DVP
