787 Coffee Co

New York NY Picking up a caffeinated drink before our train back home. Found this Puerto Rican cafe just a couple blocks from the station. It’s a cute place with fun stuff to buy, a fun theme and artwork, and plenty of seating. The iced drinks come in a little pouch (very instagram-worthy) and you can pick from their regular or rum infused coffee beans. However, this place is super expensive. My…

Black Fox Coffee

New York NY After a hot walk through Central Park with the family, the son and I needed a cold drink. We split off to go here while the rest of the family went to Rockefeller Center. The third space seating area was very nice. We both ordered a cold brew. It looked very light and watered down, but it was actually pretty strong and tasty.

Pio Bagel

New York We actually first came here for bagels on our second day in the city. The bagels are fantastic so it’s been our breakfast spot almost every morning. We’re getting iced coffee every morning because it's perfect with a bagel.

Daily Provisions

New York Killing time at the Peloton Studio store while we wait to pick somebody up at the train station. Daily Provisions is on the same plaza, so I stopped in for a drink. I picked up an iced coffee and a maple cruller. The coffee is strong and tasty which is a nice follow-up to the sweet donut.

Variety Coffee

New York NY We visited The Met on the Upper East Side. After lunch I saw this place on the way to the subway station. It was a busy corner cafe with their own branded beans and merch. I ordered an iced mocha with oat milk. It was tasty but nothing spectacular. I think I was too hot to have appreciated the flavor and just needed a cold drink. I’ll have to try again if we’re back in the area.

Blank Slate Cafe

New York NY This was our morning breakfast with the family. It’s in Nomad. It’s a cute little shop with a “fancier” food menu than most little cafes. Avocado toast, scrambles, etc. I ordered a cortado that was quite good. They were using Cafe Vita beans. note: I forgot to get a picture and stole this from the internet

Moka and Co

New York NY The family was doing some clothes shopping near the Macy’s and Empire State Building so I stopped in here to kill some time. Pretty slow at 1100 on a Saturday, which was odd. They had roasters right up front and beautiful looking pastries. There’s an upstairs seating area which is good to remember. I ordered an iced spice latte with oat milk. It was fine, but nothing special (and…

Maman

Brooklyn NY We’ve visited the Maman in Alexandria, but I realized I hadn’t logged that visit; so I’m logging this one. We were visiting DUMBO in Brooklyn and it’s severe heat advisory, so we decided to enjoy a drink, cookie, and air conditioning. I ordered a cold brew and their Martha Stewart salted caramel cookie (to share with the group). The cold brew was good with a well-balanced coffee flavor…

% Arabica

New York NY This is a Kyoto based chain, apparently. This one is just outside the iconic Tonight Show marquee at Rockefeller Center. It’s a pretty trendy looking place and was quite busy. I ordered an iced Kyoto Latte with oat milk. It was pretty good and refreshing in the ridiculous heat.

Culture Espresso Bar

New York NY Took the train up from DC to meet family from the West Coast. We were walking from the hotel to Bryant Park and stumbled upon this place while looking for an afternoon pick-me-up. Small place with their own beans and merch for sale. In addition to drinks they were selling cookies; advertising “1st place winner NYC chocolate chip cookie-off”. I got an iced coffee and a 1st place…

Mudhouse Specialty Coffee Roasters

Alexandria VA This place has been under construction and "coming soon" for many months. It's a Richmond-based cafe expanding into our area. They were supposed to soft open the day before but their shipment didn't come. So we caught them on their literal first day of opening. It was obvious they were still figuring some things out, but that's why you do a soft open. The wife and I each ordered an…

Italian Bar

Washington DC On a day trip into DC we stopped here. It's right across the street from one of our favorite bookstores, Politics and Prose . It's a bar serving coffee in the mornings and alcohol at night. I love this little stretch of Connecticut Ave and the neighborhood. We ordered iced lattes with oat milk. They were delicious! The espresso was a great flavor and it was very refreshing on a hot…

Honey and Ivy

Manassas VA We were in Manassas to visit McKay's Used Books. After spending a couple hours in that mega-store we went to Old Town Manassas to visit a new bookstore there. Right next door was Honey and Ivy, so I stopped in to pick up a coffee and sweet treat. It's a cute little coffeeshop that is also a gluten free bakery. I ordered an iced mocha with oat milk that was delicious! The oatmeal…

Simply Social

Fairfax, VA I had some time to kill after lunch with friends but before picking up the wife. I found this little corner shop in a strip mall that had a decent crowd. The people were very friendly and they had a good selection of stuff. I ordered an iced mocha with oat milk and sat outside to read and work on my notebook/journal. The mocha was a good balance of chocolate and espresso flavors. My…

Lone Light Coffee Company

Charlottesville, VA The wife and I took a little day trip to Charlottesville just to get away and do something during her Spring Break. We mostly just wandered around the town, did some shopping, took some photos, and had lunch. Towards the end of the day we were getting hot and I needed a cool drink. Right next door to a great used book store, Daedalus, was this coffee shop with good reviews and…
