Hope your July was good and you are headed into August with the same energy. This last month, winter finally arrived in Sydney. I think it deserved a solid mention, as it is something I wait for all year long. With family visiting, the month has literally run away from me. But I’ve been cooking up a storm, baking a cake pretty much every couple of days, and we are all enjoying cold nights gathered around a roaring fire in the backyard with stories, occasionally a dessert and a glass of red wine. Blissful and heartwarming!

Studio & Cooking Class news …

Only one week left until the next Pasta & Focaccia Cooking Class in Sydney. Over 3 hours, get hands-on and learn to make pasta and focaccia from scratch. Sit down to a leisurely 3-course delicious Italian lunch with wine and Tiramisu. And then take home your very own Focaccia loaf that you make on the day. Bring a friend or two; it promises to be a good time.

For my newsletter readers, I have a special 10% off all tickets for this weekend only. Use the code “10PASTA” at checkout.

(to cook, read, watch and discover)

I recently watched Christopher Nolan’s The Odyssey on the big screen. It is a movie that aspires to be larger than life, but in my humble opinion, it falls short. I don’t know whether it is a cast so stellar that it eclipses the story and journey itself, or whether the hype is what propels it forward. But either way, the movie, despite being enjoyable, takes its own sweet time to gather its own thoughts and, in turn, convince you of what’s going on. It lacks cohesiveness and clarity. And the use of the word “dad” by Tom Holland and “daddy” by Robert Pattinson makes it less believable as an epic, period, mythological magnum opus.

Dune : Part One and Dune : Part Two are far superior as works of brilliant cinematography, costumes, music and storytelling. Which then made me really want to re-watch Unbroken - a brilliant wartime, true-life story of Olympian Louis Zamperini who was detained as a prisoner of war. The acting by the little-known cast is exemplary, especially the lead. And it always blows my mind to think that this movie that weighs so heavily on your heart and packs such raw emotion is directed by Angelina Jolie.

But what the world needs right now is Miles and his song Eastern Rosellas :)

Loving this serum for my face; my skin feels like silk!

Kalki Moon Classic Gin is a local gin from Bundaberg, and it is beautiful. It has cardamom, which is something I am always looking for when trying new gins.
