What’s Happening: Runpod, a cloud platform for running and hosting AI apps, says it has reached $120M in ARR and shared an unusually simple growth driver.

In early 2022, founders Zhen Lu and Pardeep Singh didn’t have a big budget or a clear marketing playbook, so they did something basic: they posted in a few AI-focused subreddits with a straightforward offer: free access to AI servers in exchange for feedback.

That loop worked. Beta users turned into paying users, and within nine months the founders quit their jobs and hit $1M in revenue. They then spent nearly two years building without outside funding (no free tier, no debt), expanding capacity through revenue-share partnerships with data centers.

By May 2024, Runpod said it had 100,000 developers and raised a $20M seed round co-led by the venture arms of Dell and Intel. Today, the company claims 500,000 developers as customers across 31 regions, with users that include Replit, Cursor, OpenAI, Perplexity, Wix, and Zillow.

The Context: Even though the Runpod case is interesting in its own right, I want to draw attention to something else. To this day, Reddit is called “the front page of the internet,” and that’s not by accident, especially in the age of AI.

Here’s a bit of food for thought: last November, Semrush analyzed 248,000 Reddit posts that were cited in Google AI Mode, Perplexity, and ChatGPT Search. According to their findings, the platform consistently ranks among the top sources of information for AI engines.

So yes, if you want your product to have a presence online, it probably needs to be on Reddit.

What’s Happening: Last week, Mira Murati’s (former CEO of OpenAI) startup Thinking Machine Labs lost two co-founders at once: Barret Zoph and Luke Metz. Interestingly, both are former OpenAI employees and both went to work for... OpenAI.

Zoph was previously OpenAI’s vice president of research, and before that, like Metz, he was a research scientist at Google for six years.

Context: Thinking Machine Labs also lost Andrew Tulloch, who left for Meta in October 2025. Such losses are a serious blow to both the reputation and prospects of the startup. Although Murati’s company is still in stealth mode and has yet to release a single product, it started out as one of the most significant projects on the market.

In particular, the founder managed to assemble a team of former researchers from OpenAI, Mistral, and Meta, and then raise $2B in seed funding. At that time, Thinking Machine Labs was valued at $12B.

OpenAI Begins Testing Ads in ChatGPT: After weeks of speculation and rumors, the startup has confirmed a new monetization model for its flagship product. In a post on X, Sam Altman noted that the company will keep its users’ conversations private from advertisers.

If you have a Plus or Pro subscription, this news does not affect you. Ads will only appear on the free plan and ChatGPT Go (a new subscription for $8/mo).

Anthropic Released Claude Cowork: You can now use the Claude AI assistant to control your PC. The new mode allows Anthropic models to perform office tasks, organize your data, and much more. In particular, it works with services like Asana and Notion.

The new mode is based on the earlier Claude Code product, but has been simplified for non-technical users. Claude Cowork is currently available to macOS users with a Max subscription ($100/mo).

OpenAI Backed Sam Altman’s Brain-Computer-Interface Startup Merge Labs in a $250M seed round at an $850M valuation, with OpenAI reportedly writing the largest single check (amount undisclosed).

AI Journalism Startup Symbolic.ai Signed a Deal With Rupert Murdoch’s News Corp: Dow Jones Newswires is set to use its platform for tasks like research, transcription, fact-checking, and headline/SEO work (Symbolic claims up to 90% productivity gains on complex research).

We May Be Heading Into a Year of Mega IPO: the NYT says OpenAI and Anthropic have begun early steps toward going public and SpaceX has interviewed banks, with private valuations floated around $500B, $350B, and $800B.

The story frames it as an AI-capex moment (OpenAI has raised $60B+ and plans $115B in spend through 2029) that could mint 16,000+ millionaires if these listings happen.

Here’s my quick seed-round snapshot from the past week.

Flashka closed a €1M pre-seed to build an AI study app that generates flashcards, quizzes, and personalized learning flows for university students. The company also claims it hit 1M users within a year, reached #1 on the App Store in Italy and Spain, and tripled recurring revenue in three months, with growth now pushing into the DACH region.

Titl secured a $2.5M round to turn title search and property verification into something less… medieval. It’s using AI to speed up checks and a blockchain ledger as an audit trail, and says it’s expanding beyond Florida next.

AlphaLit picked up $3.2M to automate legal intake with voice AI + case scoring, so firms can qualify cases faster and waste less time on dead ends. It’s starting with California employment claims.

New week, new productivity tools to try!

  • Cowork — Turn Claude into your digital coworker. A step toward “do the task” agents: you point it at a folder, assign work, and it iterates with less back-and-forth.

  • Noodle Seed — Connect your business to AI conversations in minutes. Useful if you’re trying to show up where people now ask (ChatGPT-style flows) instead of where they search (classic SEO).

  • o11 — Microsoft Copilot That Actually Works. A lightweight way to get “AI inside Office” outcomes (Word/Excel/PowerPoint edits) without rebuilding your workflow around a separate app.

  • remio 2.0 — Captures your work to build a searchable knowledge base. Good for turning scattered tabs/notes into something you can actually query later when you’re writing, planning, or prepping a pitch.

  • GROOVY — Universal Search and Signaling across LLMs. Positioned as a single dashboard layer over multiple AI agents/LLMs, which is the direction teams go once “one chatbot” turns into “five different AI workflows.”
