As Christians, we know that Christ wasn’t born on this day, but it is the day we celebrate His birth. Here is a piece I wrote back in 2013… I titled it back then, “When Love was Born.”
’Tis the season, we celebrate and spend time with our families. The season where couples take their new love interest home to meet their families. When people become selfless and volunteer their time in their communities to feed the hungry, give supplies to the needy, care for the sick, spend time with the orphans, and visit the prisoners. Sending cards and gifts to all those they love or want to share love with. It’s a season where love is displayed freely by most of mankind, without fear, around the world.
“Today in the town of David, a Savior has been born to you; He is the Messiah, the Lord.” Luke 2:11
The greatest gift we could have ever received was the birth of this love. This love would be far greater than any gift underneath our Christmas trees. This love sacrificed His body for us, to free us from all of our sins. So that we could live life abundantly and be bright lights in the world. It shows us how to live life through His words and teachings. It is like no other.
You can’t find it in a store. You can’t find it packaged underneath a tree. You can’t stick a bow on it. This love is unsurpassable; above all that we could ever think or imagine a love to be. Nothing could ever compare to this love.
It is patient and kind. It keeps no record of wrongs; to all those who seek forgiveness of their sins. It forgives. It doesn’t delight in evil but rejoices with the Truth. It always protects. It gives hope for tomorrow. It is powerful in that it heals the sick, raises the dead, casts out devils, and calms the storms by giving peace to our souls. It gives eternal life to all those who believe in Him. It is unconditional and selfless. It never fails.
This love is the reason Christians all around the world celebrate Christmas. In and out of season, it’s a gift that keeps giving. When this love was born, it was named Jesus.
