2025, what a year! Welcome to 2026. It’s a new day, and every day we awake is a GIFT and a reason to be Thankful!
This photo popped up in my memories today… It brought back memories of that period in my life.
During that season, I was dating someone, and I believed in him and his gifts to such an extent. I did whatever I could do to support him. As far as helping him with his practice, making sure his delivery was good, attending events with him, and going to the recording studio, etc. Like I was all in, in supporting him in his dreams.
I noticed that I did that with most of the men who I dated or befriended who had a vision and asked for my assistance. I was all in and helping them, same thing occurred in my work, when working for companies and organizations. I was all in but when it came to my own personal vision. I have never been fully committed to it, in the way that I was for others. I worked on it and did accomplish things but the way I was ALL IN for others for free. I never gave myself, and my goals that level of attention.
As a single mom, outside of working a lot and helping others. I had my son to care for. So, when it came to me… there was really not much time left to give to my goals on the level I needed to. So, I’ll give myself some grace.
For years, I’ve been just working, working, working, trying to survive each day with whatever the day threw at me. Not really focusing on things I really needed to focus on.
But last year (2025), I didn’t just want to survive. I wanted to thrive! So, I decided to be quiet to process my thoughts on how I wanted my future to “potentially” go. As I know, God is the ultimate author. 😉
I spent a great portion of 2025 reflecting on everything involving me. Everything was up for discussion, so I chose to be quiet and think about what I needed to do to thrive.
So, this year 2026, I’ve decided to focus 100% on myself and my personal development. Yes, I’m going to be what some will say “selfish”, however, I’m 42, and I am not getting any younger.
I thought to myself, what do I want the rest of my years to look like?
I want to live to be at least 100 years old. What does that look like? Can I afford to live that long? How will I sustain myself? What will I do now? Will I be pleased with myself if I pass tomorrow?
There is so much more for me to explore and accomplish while I’m still breathing. So, this weekend, I started writing down realistic, obtainable goals and breaking them down into quarters, so that I will achieve them. No excuses.
So, with that being said, if it seems that I am quiet and you haven’t heard from me. It’s because I’m giving myself the attention I need to in order for me to accomplish the things I need to for my life. I can’t continue how I’ve been for years, no. I’m releasing myself from being there for everyone else and not being there for myself. No more people pleasing.
As a Christian, in some ways it feels wrong to just worry about myself. But if I don’t take care of my own needs and make sure I am going to be okay in my future, no one else will. So yes, I’m choosing to be selfish with my time, money, and energy moving forward.
I’m focusing on what I need to do to thrive in the seasons ahead. I’m giving myself the attention I should have given a long time ago, so I can heal, grow, and live well while I’m still here.
For each day you awake is a gift, and you should steward it well. ❤️
