I am thankful for the gift of having a child.

Something I wasn’t sure would happen for me, but it did, and today that child turns 20.

I’m out here with a whole 20-year-old. Can’t believe it. 😱

Twenty years was rough; the journey didn’t start like anything I would have ever imagined, but I am thankful for the Grace of God that kept me through it all.

I am thankful for this child. He has been such a blessing to my life. I couldn’t imagine my world without him in it. I am grateful for all God has done in our lives and for the relationship we have as mother and son.

Having a child teaches you many things. Oh, and they will humble you. Children teach you to think before reacting. You learn how to be patient, considerate, and to compromise. You learn that sometimes you have to make sacrifices for the greater good. Being a parent is a life project that, if done well, keeps on giving and giving valuable life lessons to help you be a better individual.

As my son gets older. I don’t know what the future holds, but I hope that I always remain a person in his life that he feels comfortable sharing his private thoughts with. So that he never has to feel alone. As a mom, I’ve reassured him that no matter what happens in this life, and where he goes. He can always count on me. He doesn’t have to live this life alone. Mom will always be here.

As he sees the world as it is. He often thanks me for giving him a childhood that brings him happy memories. His birthday is during the Christmas season when many worry about buying presents for their child and me. I was blessed with a child who was always understanding. I never had to stress about this season because what mattered most to him was that I was present. He was always thankful for whatever he was blessed with. No complaining, this child. Always grateful for whatever he received, and even if he got nothing, it didn’t matter. Presence mattered more than gifts. For that, I am thankful that I was able to be present in the ways that matter.

For this child, I have prayed, and I will continue to pray over his life that God will protect him in all the ways he needs protecting. Thankful for the gift of a child. Sometimes, things don’t happen how you envision them, but God can turn every situation around for the greater good. For this child, I am thankful.
