There are still free tickets left for StoryFest Newquay which starts on Thursday 30 July. We can’t wait!
Wyl Menmuir is kicking off the month-long celebration of books with an outdoor creative writing workshop perfect for young adults aged 13 - 16 on Thursday 30 July. Get your tickets online and meet outside the bookshop at 10:30am. Jaimie from Clemo Books and a member of the Newquay Library team will be tagging along because we want in on the fun! Attendees will have a choice of Wyl’s recently completed trilogy to take home with them.
And then on Friday 31 July Becca Rogers will be at Newquay Library for a creative writing workshop with youngsters aged 8 - 12. Tales of adventure will be abound and hopefully children will leave inspired to create their own characters and stories. Those who take part will also get to take home Becca’s new book Scamp Saltbrace and The Tidal Clock - she’ll sign your copy too of course.

Thursday 30 July, 10:30am outside the bookshop
Embark on a creative writing adventure with Wyl Menmuir as part of our free author-led summer line up of literary activities. Meet outside Clemo Books on Thursday 30 July at 10:30am and walk with Wyl whilst learning about creative writing on the Cornish coast. The workshop will last roughly 1 hour and will cover terrains like sand and steps.
Friday 31 July, 10:30am, Newquay Library
Part of our free author-led summer line up of children’s events is a storytelling and creative writing workshop with Becca Rogers at Newquay Library, on Friday 31 July at 10:30am. Becca blends magic and realism to create big-hearted middle grade adventures. The author grew up in rural Devon and her middle grade book The Girl with Gills was a Waterstones Best Children’s Book of the Month.

Each child will receive a free book from the author leading the event which we hope will foster a love of literature during the National Year of Reading 2026. These events are all possible thanks to the Penguin Children’s Bookshop Grant and with the help of Newquay Library and Newquay Town Council. Support your local library and indie bookshop folks!
