It’s zucchini time in Doug’s garden, with tomatoes, cucumbers, and beans making an appearance as well. He’s already talking about garden plans for the fall; it’s a good reminder that gardens don’t just happen, they take planning. I’m looking forward to see how the garden changes in the coming season!

The 4PA Touchstone Campus

Drew Schwab of the Port Angeles City Council has a new article that offers insight on an important aspect of civic engagement — communication. His words describe it best: “Communication should have a purpose. The goal isn’t simply to say more. The goal is to create better understanding. I wrote a new article, Understanding the Decision, about what effective communication between residents and local government should actually accomplish.”

Jon Hamilton also published a new article about the meeting he attended in his official capacity with the Port Angeles City Council: “At Monday’s Clallam County Marine Resources Committee meeting, I learned more about derelict-vessel removal, prevention through vessel turn-in events, and what role the MRC could realistically play in future regional work.”

Jon also put out a new weekly video discussing his meeting schedule for the week.

This week’s article from SC should be required reading for a ‘Just Say No to Drugs’ campaign. Thank you, SC, for sharing your memories and what you experienced as an addict during a 24-hour period. Whenever I read SC’s articles and learn about what she went through, I think about the people currently living as addicts on the streets and in the woods; it’s no way to live and they deserve better than being given tents and boofing kits to keep them where they’re at.

While the solutions aren’t easy to figure out, one thing I do believe in is the power of words, communication, and learning. My hope is that by sharing SC’s words it will reach people who need to read it, or people who know someone who needs to read it, and that it will help people.

From SC: “If anyone would like me to share their own story, (or perspective) then please reach out to me through substack and I will email you. I think it is very important for our encounters of addiction and recovery to be shared. I am glad to help anyone do this.”

Congratulations to Jason Backus for making it through Round 1 of the Fridge Oath! In his article he reveals the mystery of the experiment and the results; and then he doubles down with another round:

“In the follow-up to The Fridge Oath, I unseal the receipts from Round 1, break down the psychological “cheat code” of tribal alignment, and explore why escalating your voluntary burden is the only way to keep biological entropy at bay. Round 2 is sealed and taped to the stainless steel. The targets are doubled.”

It’s nice to know that the person who heads universal education in this state wants the same for healthcare — because, you know, that universal system works so well for public schools, now, don’t it. LOL.

The final results are in and 45% of registered voters in Clallam County voted in the primary.

Jake Seegers finished first in the Clallam County Commissioner District 3 race. Marcia Kelbon finished first in the race for Legislative District 24, Position 2; she came in first in Clallam and Grays Harbor Counties, and third in Jefferson County; but she took the lead for the tri-county results. Congratulations!

Thursday, August 27th, from 6:30pm to 8:30pm, a candidate conversation with Jake Seegers & Mike French, candidates for Clallam County Commissioner District 3, will be held at the Sequim Grange; hosted by the Calico Cat Club.
