Carolyn Chebaro · Carolyn Chebaro

There was an interesting conversation in my head this week.

Miss Evie ate a bad egg.

What followed were vet visits, medications, a pet hospital, sleeping on the couch [ that I am too tall for ], worry... and the kind of tiredness that moves from your toenails to the top of your head.

Then, almost automatically, another voice appeared.

Get over it.

You have things to do.

Clients are waiting.

Keep pushing.

Years ago, I would have listened. Not because that voice was kind or welcomed. Because it sounded well…the thing that a responsible, productive person did. It sounded like the sort of person I believed I needed to be. I had molded myself into that Carolyn.

But something different happened this time.

After lunch, I went for a walk.

No grand breakthrough but the nudge of an ahha moment

Just enough quiet to notice.

Those words weren’t mine anymore. They were old thoughts. Old ideas.Old rules I’d carried for years about what makes someone worthy, successful, or “good.” The push.

Keep going.

Don’t slow down.

Earn your rest.

I’d already left those behind. I just hadn’t realised they’d quietly wiggled back in through the side door.

And that, I’ve discovered, is the gift of noticing.

Noticing isn’t about catching yourself doing something wrong. It’s about recognising when you’ve wandered away from the place that feels most like home. For me, a place where I work, live and play with ease and at my own pace.

Where I know, deep down, that rushing has never been the reason good work happens. Ironically, it’s also where I achieve more. Not because I’m pushing harder.

Because I’m no longer wasting energy arguing with myself.

If this resonates with you, I’d love to continue the conversation.

This Sunday, I’ll be live on YouTube with a cup of coffee, talking about the quiet moments that change us and the old stories we no longer have to believe.

I’d love for you to join me.

We often think transformation happens in the big moments.

The new job.

The life-changing decision.

The leap.

But more often, it happens on an ordinary walk after lunch. In the quiet moment when you realise,

“I don’t believe that anymore.”

That single moment of noticing changes everything. Because once you see an old story for what it is, you don’t have to climb back inside it.

You simply thank it for the role it once played...

...and keep walking.

I wonder...

What old thought has quietly wandered back into your life lately?

And what would happen if, instead of believing it, you simply noticed it?

If this reflection resonated with you, let’s continue the conversation.

Join Me on Sunday
