I rustle through the pages of my book as if they are leaves
or a basket of miscellaneous items in a charity shop.
I emerge with three small pieces of the book I made,
only realising when it was done, that I had made
a patchwork quilt out of myself.

YOU AGAIN
it's you again this morning
can't i meet another face
can't i score a bit of grace
it makes me tired
this waking up
and waking up again
a day is like an empty road
a desert sky
a ball of shame
and even though it's kind
i'm kind
i've found the land of kind
the desperate
is so desperate
and i'm lost
and lost again
it's quieter than it ever was
i can hear some prayers
that might be mine
i can hear the time move through me
and myself move through the time
i used to long for many things
now i long for less
i long to put my head down
to rest
to rest
to rest
i'm looking for a weathered rock
a salty shore
a place to put my head down
to ask for nothing moreHeels & Healing
(2008)
Once upon a time, a light-lifetime ago, there was a girl that could run in high heels. She ran the streets of Sydney at night. If I half close my eyes I can see her there still.
Still running.
Once I ran around in high heels and tiny clothes.
I was tiny then. It may have been the intravenous drug use and Mars Bar diet that kept me small.
Maybe it was the drugs, or my relative youth, or maybe the angels or drag queens that kept me on my feet.
I ran around those nights in Kings Cross, Sydney, Australia, selling my pussy, my mouth, my arse, and never once falling off my stilettos.
The thing is, twenty years later, a woman that eventually learned to walk on the ground beneath her feet, has lost the art of dancing like a tiny drug-fucked gazelle, on impossibly high heels.
It wouldn’t matter that she had - if I hadn’t had a vision of myself wearing shoes to make your eyes pop out - on the occasion of my approaching fiftieth birthday.

A Life in a Day
5 haiku tell the tale
knitting and weeping
birthday cake and two clients
a day in the life
rose flew in and out
pyjamas on and dinner
a day in the life
the west wing again
leonard kisses closed eyelids
a day in the life
another pee walk
nod to neighbours and the moon
a day in the life
candle light and pill
dog snuffles and snores like pig
another day doneMy book is available via Amazon, all online bookstores and any real world book-shop can order it.
